I'm the ostensible target market for this game, Unreal Tournament 2004 is still one of my favourite shooters, and I still enjoy playing Doom Shareware once in a while. Rise of the Triad doesn't do anything for me. There were plenty of shooters in the 90s that weren't good, that didn't stack up with the best of them, and this feels like one of them, rather than the good ones we remember.
Not many games can I say redeem themselves such as this game. I came to this remake of one of my most favorite games of all time with the idea they remade it to ft with modern day shooters. I was thinking it was slow, Call of Duty-esce. Oh boy was I wrong! It gives you less than twenty minutes, then you have dual pistols, you're blowing away Triad Nazis in groups, explosions and did I forget to mention it's freaking fast paced yet has enough content to give you hours of entertainment (16-18, with 18-20) for all the secret levels attached). While the weapons act strange and the performance can still slow down sometimes, it is an impeccable game that I truly find amazing and every gamer should try once,
Love this game and is an amazing return to classic fun gameplay. The action is fast, graphics are great and levels are fun. There is more variety than the old Rise of Triad games and its not overcomplicated like most modern FPS games. Excellent work form Apogee and we need more great games from this company. How about a return of Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, or Realms of Chaos. Good stuff
It seems as though the stagnation that has taken hold of the game industry for so long has finally ceased. This game brought new meaning to the term "killer app". I bought ten copies for all of my incredibly intelligent friends and they all consider this the "Citizen Kane" of the FPS genre. If I could, I would nominate this piece of software for the Spike Video Game Awards, but alas that choice resides with our friends at Doritos and Mountain Dew corporation. But do your part in encouraging good game development and buy a copy. Buy three. Tell your friends!
