The ultimate remake!

THANK YOU GOG OH MY GOD!!! This game is everything! It was done when Capcom still cared about their IP and was meant to be the first in a long line of classic remakes that would enhance but not take away anything from the golden classics, however since it came out on the gamecube it never got a chance. Later it came to modern consoles and sold amazingly. The only problem I could not OWN it on PC and now it is finally happening. If you like atmosphere, amazing graphics, a haunting soundtrack that grabs you, monsters that give you a chill to the bone, several endings and modes to unlock and metroidvania RE then you get everything and then some in this game. There is no other RE game like it and never will be. THIS is survival horror at its very best. This game is tough, it is scary, it will grab you and capture you in its dark mansion and you will love every second of it.

A masterclass on remakes

As someone who spent a ludicrous amount of hours on the original RE1 on the Sega Saturn, playing this remake of the original Resident Evil was a phenomenal experience which stayed true to it's origins and also managed to improve the entire experience of the original. Everything the original had is here and more, on a visual standpoint the halls of the Spencer Mansion are creepier and darker than before with an excellent use of pre-rendered backgrounds which made the most out of the Gamecube hardware (Which this version of the game was originally released on), they held up incredibly well over the years, the new 3D models of player characters and enemies blend in with the backgrounds more naturally. Gameplay wise it stays true to it's roots, keeping the fixed camera angles and tank controls, though this version also added 3D controls for those who wish the character to go at the direction they're pressing, it's a decent compromise all types of players. Combat is more tense than ever, enemies still have weaknesses to certain weapons thus rewarding you for keeping track of weaknesses, inventory management and exploration to find more resources with added mechanics of one-use defense items and some extra surprises which will make you think twice before spending ammo on zombies. There's more of the mansion to explore with expanded areas to explore and stories of horrific and tragic events that transpired prior to the arrival of S.T.A.R.S at the mansion adding even more to an already creepy story. Sound was completely redone, which for those who love the cheesy dialogue of the original, sorry, it ain't here. But now it does feel as if they fully realized what they originally intended to do. No complaints on performance, I got this ages ago when it came out on Steam, it already ran great on computers back then, so today's computers should run this just fine, controller support worked great, which I still find it the best way to play this. So even if you're an RE veteran or a newcomer, this is an amazing entry point, it won't hold your hand, you'll die a few times and will need to adjust to manual saving and it's particular style of action, while the difficulty is not brutal (Although there are added challenges for all the masochists out there) it will require you to play by its rules and be smart with the both resources you have at hand and your knowledge of the best routes of the mansion.

The Perfect REmake

Resident Evil Remake is one of the finest examples of an excellent game remake - Faithfully remake the game you know, while improving it, remixing it, adding new elements and mechanics, then add new areas that are so seamless you thought they were always there to begin with. I have fond memories of renting the original Gamecube version back in the day (I think I also rented Animal Crossing at the same time, from a Hollywood Video) and going through the game with my brother, occasionally looking up a walkthrough when we got stuck. One of the best games on Gamecube, and in the series. Still looks great to this day, but it looks even better with the remaster, even if they didn't exactly redo the prerendered backgrounds like they did with Zero.

Resident Evil on GOG

Day one purchase for any Resident Evil game which makes it's way to gog. The fact it's now going into the "Good old Game" section so it will be maintained is amazing. This remake of the original PS1 gamestill looks amazing to this day even though it originally released on the Gamecube. A lot of the corny dialog has been stripped out to make this more serious but there are still some nods kept in the game such as Barry still referring to the famous Jill sandwich. If you are reading this and mulling the decision over, just buy it. The original PS1 version is still here and is still good to play alongside this one. This is just an awesome remake and how they should be done.

Best RE game together with RE4

Best of the classic RE games and one of the few cases where remake is better than the original. Level design is brilliant, and it improves many things from the original game.
