Description

 

The game that defined the survival-horror genre is back! Check out the remastered HD version of Resident Evil. 

In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive. 

 


Graphics 
 

  • More detailed graphics that retain the horror.
  • The environments come alive with detail thanks to resolution upgrades and non-static 3D models.
  • Post-processing effects like Bloom filters, which were not easy to do at the time of the original release, have been added to make the HD graphics even more realistic.
  • High-Resolution Environments - We've increased the resolution of the background environments by recreating them with a mix of high-res static images, plus animated 3D models.


Widescreen Support 
 

  • Widescreen (16:9) is supported, so players can experience a greater sense of immersion.
  • In widescreen mode, the screen will scroll. The parts of the screen that get cut off on the top and bottom will scroll into view automatically depending on the character's position.
  • You can switch the display mode during gameplay in real time.


Sound & New Controls 
 

  • High-Quality Sound - The audio has been remastered to increase the sampling rate, and of course 5.1ch output is also now supported.
  • New Controls
  • You can play using the original control scheme or an alternate control scheme that lets you just push the analog stick to move in the direction you want to go.
  • You can switch the control scheme during gameplay in real time.

It was something both nostalgic and fresh, instantly familiar but teeming with macabre surprises and twists, keeping veterans guessing while giving newcomers a terrific reason to dive into the Spencer Mansion for the very first time. Everything that made the original Resident Evil a success was kept in, while almost all of the dated elements were overhauled and improved. It's good enough that Capcom can actually get away with remastering it and only earn sideways glances from yours truly – and that's saying something.

3rd times the charm?

I still have this for my GameCube and PS4/PS5. I guess I just wanted to support the preservation program. I'm also really glad at how extremely well this game plays on my Asus Tuf F16 with an RTX 5060. Nothing much else to add that hasn't been said already. :-)

Randomizer compatible.

Verified that the Randomizer (v.1.25) and FusionFix (Door skip) mod still works on GOG version. Verified game can still work on Windows 7. That kind of clunky main menu interface is the same as steam version minus any steam related notifications that version would have. Can only exit by slowly going to main menu -> quit game -> confirm. Core game is great and would recommend trying a randomizer to recreate that initial exploration and item prioritization feeling you have on the first playthrough.

Another win for Resdient Evil

Am I mindlessly throwing money again for this game that I started owning on GameCube in 2002, then on Wii, then on PS3, then on Steam, and then here? Yes I am. Anything that will help Capcom understands that it's important to keep an eye on the past. It's also free money for them. The game is a masterpiece anyways.
