Resident Evil HD REMASTER

Almost all remakes of games and movies are utter trash and/or disrespectful to their source material but not this remake. Instead, it enhances the original vision and intentions with better graphics, controls, sound design, gameplay adjustments that objectively achieve a better result than the original; whilst also staying faithful to the roots. The plot is mostly the same, voice acting is MUCH improved and realistic, you still get fixed cameras, some new lore (Lisa) is added... just EVERYTHING is an enhanced version of the original 1996 game. This is the definitive remake that happens once in a blue moon.

Capcom did and amazing job with this one. They took all the things that made the original so good and then made something truly great. The HD port is a pretty solid effort all the way around but you can really make it shine with a few carefully selected community mods. Can't wait to see what GOG delivers next!

Since this remake came out, which practically improves on the original game in every way, I've barely felt like playing the first Resident Evil on the PS1. While the quality-of-life improvements in the latter have revived its popularity, the remake will always be superior, especially for those of us who know the original game by heart. For me, the only real flaw in this game is that the Hunters don't command as much respect. Where in the original they would decapitate you regardless of your health, here they only perform the "decapitation" animation if your health is in the red, and I put "decapitation" in quotes because that element is completely censored—a real shame.
