United States, 1830: ‘The New World’ is in its ascendancy. Industry is booming, and the race is on to establish the most dominant and powerful rail empire in all of North America. It’s time to outthink and outmaneuver your competitors as you lead your company into the 20th century!
In Railway Empire, you will create an elaborate and wide-ranging rail network, purchase over 40 different trains modelled in extraordinary detail, and buy or build railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories and tourist attractions to keep your travel network ahead of the competition. You’ll also need to hire and manage your workforce if you want to ensure an efficient train service, whilst also develop over 300 technologies ranging from mechanical improvements to the trains themselves to workplace infrastructures and advanced amenities as you progress through five eras of technological innovations.
However, you can’t just build and research your way to the top – the competition never sleeps, and to keep your business on track you’ll have to survive against up to three rival tycoons. To get to the top you may have to resort to more cutthroat tactics as you attack and sabotage your opponents through raids and industrial espionage.
Exploit the economic opportunities of the United States in an extensive campaign, working your way step by step from coast to coast across this great continent.
Lead your Railway Empire to success by establishing a comprehensive rail network and optimizing transportation of passengers and goods.
Master challenges and objectives through a range of scenarios, or create your perfect railway network in construction mode without any financial pressure.
Over 40 historically accurate locomotives and more than 30 different wagons can be acquired over the course of the game, and must be put to use in the best way in order to take advantage of their strengths and weaknesses.
Invest in over 300 new technologies across five different eras to progress and maximize the potential of your rail network.
Compete with up to three rival companies, and even sabotage their efforts with the use of bandits and spies.
Artificial intelligence (AI) does not build detours and crosses, it does everything in an easy way. You could also connect the rails with competitors and charge for their use. Thank you
I have found Railway Empire to be a great but not excellent computer game. I enjoy it a lot. On some days for 5 hours.
I found it confusing when I started playing. A tutorial would have been helpful. It was quite easy to learn how to play it but there is a fair bit to learn.
The level of difficulty settings allows you to play an easy or near impossible game. Using the advanced settings, you can fine tune it. If you are a beginner do not make it too difficult for yourself.
The layout of the American map is fully accurate, with all towns, mountains, rivers, etc. The vast majority of America is included with only about 8 states missing.
There is a wide range of resources that you can farm or mine. And a great range of factories that allow you to make consumer goods.
The main way you earn money is by creating railway lines. Creating one is easy at the start. But as the game progresses it can become tedious as you spend a lot of time creating and deciding where they should go. It has affected my enjoyment of game. There should be reports that say which is the most needed or profitable.
One main downside is the lack of staff you get. Sometimes I only get 20% of the employees I need which affects how much money rail lines can make.
The technology tree is great and easily allows you to easily see what technologies you can research, the benefits, cost in innovation points and the prerequisites.
Later in the game you can add extra rail cars such as mail and dinning. Although these are tedious to add especially when you have a lot rail lines.
The yearly report summaries the main income and expenses allowing you to see how much money you have from year to year.
You can play against a couple of competitors that build rival networks. It is fun to sabotage one of your competitors’ stations or business. You can even merge with a competitor by buying shares in their company and eventually take over all their railway lines slowly over many years.
great addition to my train games colletion but drm sux need to be online to start the game and change game options like wtf!
wanted to turn off the bad repetitive muzak had to go online for that too ? I thought GOG was a garantee against such bad programming practices , I allready had the game for free from epicstore but thought the only save while online was implemented by epic due to giving the game away for free but its also in the gog version? also the dlcs exept for australian one are just reskins of the usa one that was also little disapointing . To the devs just remove the et phone home bs for the gog version and youll get 5 stars ;)
or at least make it so it just checks the first time i understand you want to see if the copy is legit. I hate going online with all the hackers around especialy when playing a game full window without seeing whats going on ion the background ;) get it!
From what I've seen I like this game very much. The graphics are good and the music is good. And managing the trains is good fun. You need to plan your routes carefuly.
Other people's comments, negative and positive, are only a factor in being introduced to a game. After that, I will use my own slow judgement. The initial learning curve - and the game's concepts - do take a little time to grasp. I suppose this is where a good few part with the game. I like things that take a while to appreciate. If you want something that simulates the feeling of being far from the maddening crowd you may appreciate this - eventually.
