Description
Project Warlock is a first person shooter that fans of Doom, Hexen and Wolfenstein cannot miss. It serves you an exploding cocktail of bullets, spells and monsters. In Project Warlock you battle through 60 levels of non stop action packed with bloodthirsty enemies and challenging bosses. The game offers not just firepower, but perk-based character development, weapon upgrades and unlockable spells system. This high-quality independent gem is priced to appeal to fans of polished indie titles and seekers of classic fps experience alike.

Back in April 2018 hundreds of gamers had a chance to experience an early build of Project Warlock and gave their enthusiastic feedback. The following six months the Buckshot team, with it’s showrunner Jakub Cislo, spent on polishing the game to bring you the most complete and satisfying experience. The end result is something you can check for yourself.

Oh. And John Romero thinks “it looks cool”.

Barebone Hexen Wannabe

Great: -11€ Good: -Solid Gunplay -Tight Controls with KB&Mouse -Music is nice enough Bad: -No Respec for the RPG Tree -RPG Tree & Magic Tree are not well thought out. It looks to me as if they build the Levels and then create the Tech & Magic Skill Tree around that instead the other Way around -Gamepad Support implementation is not working as intended My Xbox One Wireless and my 360 Controller wont work as intended.. -Lot's of Levels are too Dark -The Magic System is a bloody Joke. A Laterne Spell for holding the right Mouse Button? because the Levels are too dark? If you hold the right Mouse Button you can't shoot or Melee Attack?! -No MAP View only a small Compass, makes navigating the Levels... Tedious, Boring and Frustating. Because the Levels has no Variation in terms of Textures or other Landmarks, navigating the Maze Levels are THE Nightmare, not the Monsters... The Ugly: -NO Story, NO Lore, no nothing, Not even a Manual. -Because you can't respec your Warlock, the chance to hit a Wall or Roadblock because of that has in my Opinion a high Chance, I started the Game 3 Times new Because of that Mechanic. -A Four Room Workshop as a Hub and as a way to spend the RPG Currency on three Slot Machines and is totally unneccesary and hampers the Game Flow. My 50 Cent €: If you can overlook all the Shortcomings of a Generic Wannabe Hexen Shooter... Well it's only 11€ Best Regards from Stone Cold Zermany

Was Great Until I Lost all my Lives

When I started playing Project Warlock I must have read the lines "if you lose your lives it's game over and you'll lose your all progress" and thought that's fine I've played rogue-likes before, there my favourite genre! However, this game is not a rogue-like it's an FPS game with levels and perks. And for some reason they decided to have a lives system very strange. So I basically lost 8 hours because of this and I really don't feel like going back and playing through the levels again. Really up until this it was a fun game not great but fun. The enemies aren't really that diverse but there is enough there to be interesting. The graphics are nice and the weapons are satisfying. I had some issues with mouse acceleration but it seems most games do nowadays. I really can't recommend playing on standard or hard though. I don't know how easy casual is but as a veteran FPS player it doesn't sound fun to play on that mode.

High quality amateur product

This game is very much a boomer shooter. though a bit too much for my tastes. it has a lot of things from those old games i dont like. for one thing the game is a little bit on the meaner side; they love to drop you into a level and have enemies shooting at you faster than you can react, as well as have enemies behind doors that shoot at you before the door is all the way open. reminds me of mob grinders in minecraft where a skeleton dropping down a pit at max speed with no awareness of you will turm, fire, and likely hit you in the only open block going down the pit. the game trains you to just fire immediately as you go around corners and while doors are opening before you know if wanything is actually there because you will be shot if you dont. the game is balanaced for this though, ammunition is plentiful. the other meaner side is that the "upgrades" are more like sidegrades in that they can change weapon behavoir, but usually in such a way where you are going to hurt yourself more often. ecample: assault rifle upgrade gives riccochet shots, and you WILL hurt yourself with them, guranteed. level design is... serviceable. like i said they are mazelike but they are so small its not going to give you nausea running around them. a lot of levels are extremely cramped and all one one level, which again, a bit too nostaligic. no jumping either. the biggest problem is you cant get a full screen map. it strongly needs a toggle for larger mapsize for when you inevitably get turned around in the cramped hallways of a level. the music is also just serviceable. havent heard it all, but nothing so far that iwould like to listen to outside of the game and sveral tracks are just plain bad. gunplay is great, all the guns sound great and feel great. magic is a thing, but very much optional in my playthrough so far. the first spell they give you is a flashlight that is entirely unecessary. feels like an afterthought, though may be very useful on harder difficulties.

Why make a retro game intensive

The game is pretty solid. My main complaint is that it runs poorly on my laptop. The tank boss level just chugs at a glorious 5fps by phase 3. Why make a retro style game but make it too intensive to run on older hardware!?

Fantastic Boomer Shooter

I absolutely loved this game, and have put a couple hundred hours into it on steam. I will admit that in the early days of this game's development i had to make ALOT of adjustments in order for the game to run smoothly, however it beeing 2021 and a PW2 Demo already out, i thought it would be my duty, as someone that loves this game, to update the reviews that are complaining about the bugs that were eventually taken out/solved. In short: It runs buttery smooth. The video options menu allows you to select exactly now "old-school" you'd like the game to look with scan lines and frozen frames. Allows you to adjust all manner of wacky video components i can't properly explain. The gameplay after it's release has been an absolute dream, and have given it a lot of replayability. As with all games there are small "issues" but i think they are more related to preference than an inherent problem with the game. In short i think it was well executed. I loved the weapons, spells, upgrade system, and the way it feels like a true 3D bullet hell, but also a rogue-like doom clone. It's just a great game whether on sale or not.
