Description
What happened to the humans? Set in a post-apocalyptic world strewn with cast-off pieces of machinery, Primordia tells the story of Horatio Nullbuilt, who finds his peaceful existence threatened when a rogue robot steals his power core—the sole source of energy fueling his ship and keeping him alive. To recover it, the robot and his companion, Crispin, must leave behind their idyllic home for Metropol, the city of glass and light. Their quest to reclaim what has been taken away will lead Horatio to unexpected discoveries about his origins—and a new understanding of the humans who walked the earth before him.

  • Puzzles that emphasize logical thinking and exploration rather than trial and error or pointless backtracking.
  • A streamlined interface, player-friendly design combined with the challenge and depth of the classics.
  • Features over fifty hand-drawn rooms to explore, dozens of distinctive characters to meet, and gorgeous painted cutscenes to soak in.

Highly atmospheric. Almost great.

I enjoyed the strange world, lush Giger-esque artwork, strong voice acting, and the beginning and ending areas. Regrettably, I thought the middle section—which was the longest—was the dullest; it’s an interconnected cityscape that requires a lot of backtracking (made slightly more palatable by the quick-travel feature). That section was okay for a while, but it outlived its welcome. The companion that can drop hints is a good idea, but it didn’t work for me in one sequence that I got stuck on—the “info booth” puzzle. It’s reasoning didn’t make any sense to me, and I didn’t like it. On the other hand, I was quite satisfied with the ending that I got, but I thought that the most difficult-to-achieve ending had worse narration. Overall, Primordia is a nifty retro-throwback that makes a valiant effort, but doesn’t quite manage to advance the genre very far.

A real gem

Honestly, It's worth it for the soundtrack alone. 2,5 hours of rusty synth ambience. But yes, the atmosphere is great. The story is thought provoking and awesome to unravel. The novella adds even more worldbuilding. The achievements are worth hunting, so it's worth a replay - with commentary mode on. Suffice to say that I was blown away. My favorite game of 2020, alongside Celeste and Thief. Minor con, is that I did not get all the terms that were thrown at me, and that might be a bit confusing for puzzles.

Great with a few flaws

Absolutely fantastic and interesting world to be dropped into. The sidekick character, while chipper and charming, is a great way to provide hints to the player at their discretion. Though for some puzzles he was not that helpful. I personally only had to check a walkthrough three times for my playthrough since near all of the puzzles were logical and perfectly solvable with a bit of brain power. The only thing I did not like is how the game handled the story endings. I got I think the worst ending possible but there was absolutely no clue or hint during play I was on such a path. Upon researching the other endings it seems a bunch of them are actually locked out to you based on how you solve a very early game puzzle which is unfortunate.

A gem of an adventure game

I've played this game some long time ago, I don't remember the details by now, but what I'll always remember it's it's aftertaste, an ever lasting one saying that I'd love if there were more games like this. A perfect amount of "I want to know more!" and "this ending is perfect, I don't need more". Plus, I've been following the author since I've played it and the dude couldn't be more nicer, with loads of humbleness for someone who did such a nice gem of a game. If you're reading this: be proud! This wasn't an accident, it's a true show of art, project managing and business awareness. I applaud you!

A Fantastic Experience

This game absolutely blew me away! I'd never been interested in point-and-click adventure games before, but something about Primordia seemed... special. I am so glad I took a chance on it. The art is drop-dead gorgeous. In a world full of ultra-realistic 3D graphics, it's nice to see a game unapologetically embracing a painted pixellated canvas. The characters, for the most part, are interesting and engaging (although I must admit Crispin's ceaseless chatter could grow a tad tiresome). I finished the game really wanting to know more about Horatio! The story is slightly predictable, but nonetheless quite engaging. The fictional universe the game takes place in is one of the most intriguing settings I've seen in a video game; I would absolutely love to see more games explore the world more! At the end of the day, Primordia is great. It's shorter length and numerous little quirks keep me from giving it a full 5 stars (which isn't really saying anything), so I'd have to give it four and a half. I thoroughly recommend this game!
