Description
What happened to the humans? Set in a post-apocalyptic world strewn with cast-off pieces of machinery, Primordia tells the story of Horatio Nullbuilt, who finds his peaceful existence threatened when a rogue robot steals his power core—the sole source of energy fueling his ship and keeping him alive. To recover it, the robot and his companion, Crispin, must leave behind their idyllic home for Metropol, the city of glass and light. Their quest to reclaim what has been taken away will lead Horatio to unexpected discoveries about his origins—and a new understanding of the humans who walked the earth before him.

  • Puzzles that emphasize logical thinking and exploration rather than trial and error or pointless backtracking.

  • A streamlined interface, player-friendly design combined with the challenge and depth of the classics.

  • Features over fifty hand-drawn rooms to explore, dozens of distinctive characters to meet, and gorgeous painted cutscenes to soak in.

An amazing but imperfect adventure.

I enjoyed Primordia very much - if you like adventure games, and in special Wadjet Eye games, then it's a no-brainer - buy it. However, there are a couple of minor issues with the game. First: some puzzles make no sense. Part of it is due to the rundown, dystopian sci-fi setting no doubt (I have no background on engineering or electronics) but there were absurd puzzles. Example? There is a puzzle where you have to, somehow, guess that a number you just got (something like 56346) must be translated into the corresponding letters of the alphabet and then typed on a console. I mean, WHERE did anyone say you are supposed to randomly convert numbers to letters? Bizarre puzzle design. Second issue: the ending is abrupt. Not at all unsatisfying (and you can get the best endings with pretty much any setup) but bar the 2 top endings, the others are simply... sudden. Most have a 15-second epilogue and that's it. Primordia's characters, story and setting will follow me for a long time, I am sure. It's charming and well-polished, if a bit cranky at puzzles. If you like the genre and don't mind following walkthoughs, it's no doubt a very good game to purchase.

Masterpiece

The graphics, the atmosphere, the music is wonderful on its own. But add philosophical, hard scifi topics dealing with humanity and the far future? Now you really got a masterpiece.

More than the Sum of its Parts

I tend to have a hard time getting into point-and-click adventure games. This one broke the mold. Primordia has challenging (but entirely solveable) puzzles with little to no pixel-hunting, a reasonable ingame help system (that doesn't break immersion), and at least 10 different endings. Having said that, I do find the overall replay value to be low, since all endings can be discovered by savescumming the last leg of the game. Despite that, if I could go back to before I played, I'd be willing to pay full price for this game. The story is fresh, voice acting is superb, and while the graphics are a little on the grainy side for my taste, pixel art does feel fitting for a story about robots.

Love LucasArts? Buy "Primordia"

I'd always wanted my adventure games funny, thinking I'd never want a more serious story in them, "Grim Fandango" being the exception. Then one day I discovered the "Blackwell" series, which was funny without being comedic 24/7 in the vein of, for example, "Day of the Tentacle." It was also pretty good (first game is fine, the rest are great-to-masterful). I started paying attention to Wadjet Eye, who I next bought "Gemini Rue" from, a masterpiece. Then, for me, "Primordia," another masterpiece. This one declunks adventure game mechanics a bit (the inventory is never overbearing), and the story is...sad, almost. Mournful. Beautiful, and elegiac. The game itself is deeply atmospheric, too. The puzzles are logical, and never throw you against a dead end like "King's Quest" would. The cast (fronted by Logan Cunningham and supported capably by the delightful Abe Goldfarb) is superb. I'm saying buy it. It's so, *so* good. I've been thinking about it since I beat it in 2017.

Some games really leave an impression

This is one of those games that I come to think about again and again even after years of having played it. The atmosphere and themes presented here have really stuck with me, the writing, voice acting, music and the art are all excellent! Difficulty of the puzzles range from easy to moderately hard, hardcore puzzle fans may be underwhelmed but for genre newbies like me there were only a few really hard ones and two of those are optional I think. Additionally, the devs updated the game 7 years after it first came out, further improving it despite being a tiny indie crew which shows how much love and care they have for their game. There is really no reason not to try it if it looks like something you might enjoy
