Its a good game, with some caveats.

So I got this at release for a good price. The levels are large, and mostly interesting. The outside however is a nightmare to navigate, as is the "multiple objectives" on exits, which is unhelpful. Weapons are pretty bad, pistol/shotgun as you expect, the rest has no use, or a nice gimmick like the gravity gun in HL2. Glue gun for instance is fine at the beginning but later on you can spends hours waiting for it to glue enemies. Enemies are ok, some variety, but nothing really to shout about. Same model with electric or flame for instance. Story is ok, really don't like the whole "choice" parts thrown in, one mission for instance you can't complete as it just says not the one, and you re-load. Probably the worst point though is progression. To start with, sneaking around, creeping up on things, saving everying you can etc. is really fun and a bit of a thrill. By near the end though you are superhuman and I was just running past enemies and jumping over levels. Possibly due to getting neuromod blueprint too early. Eventually I got bored, more or less at the end of the game. Overall, its a nice attempt, and worth a couple of quid.

By far one of the best games i've played

I've platinumed this game on a PS4 and that was the first time I ever wanted to do that, absolutely finish every possible thing and check every inch of the map, look behind, in and under every container and throughout the rafters and service ducts.  I was very pleased when it came to GOG and I am currently replaying it here. The game as a whole is awesome and there's many ways you can play though it.  Also I found that trying to get the trophies really pushes you to be exposed to other paths and possibilities.  If not for those there's some play styles and play thoughts i may have not encountered.  There is so much story and background in this game.  I just cannot recommend this game enough.  This is truly a gem of a game.

No idea what to do next

I'm in that phase where I'm desperately looking for a game to play next after Prey, and nothing seems to scratch that itch. I guess I have no other option but to remove all my neuromods and play Prey again. Might do this 5 or 6 times, so I'm leaving a note here just in case I lose track. Hope my eyes don't get too red.

Human vacuum cleaner: the game

At first glance Prey looks like a competently made game. It’s strongest features are environmental design, setting, soundtrack and atmosphere. The problem is that at the same time it’s rather formulaic and hardly innovative, so for anybody who already played games like BioShock, PREY may be all too similar. Narration is largely handled through text and audio logs / calls. Interactions with characters and cutscenes are only occasional. I’m not a fan of such an approach, since games are a visual medium. These disjointed notes and conversations are hard to digest, especially when you’re distracted by combat. Their abundance and the fact that they often concern trivial matters, further discourages from reading / listening to them. There are moral choices in the game; however, for the most part they’re black and white and it’s rather obvious what you should be doing to achieve a “good” ending. Ultimately though, your decisions change little in the big picture, they just affect the fate of the main character. The gameplay is disappointing: PREY features just two unique guns. Shooting is unenjoyable for the most part. Special abilities are rather generic and bland. There are no bossfights, just a recurring enemy that can be avoided, which the game even recommends you to do. You can play stealthily though in my opinion it doesn’t fit a game like this at all. Hacking is very simplistic and unsatisfying. The game artificially inflates playtime by including a tedious crafting mechanic, which requires the player to collect scrap around the station and break it down into materials. Backtracking is also a prominent issue. All in all, PREY falls into the “not great, but not terrible” category for me. It’s pretty average, so I’d recommend to avoid it unless you cannot find a better game to play.

Excellent immersive sim, a must play!

Prey is a stealth survival shooter game made by the team behind Dishonored. You play as either male or female Morgan Yu, trapped in a space station invaded by shadow-like alien creatures. The station is really well-designed, it combines the aesthetics of Dead Space and BioShock. The gameplay is widely praised, and it's well-deserved. It shares a name with a (sadly abandonware) 2006 game, but it has no connection other than being a human vs alien story, taking place in a spaceship. As an immersive sim, you can choose multiple ways to progress, using the Human or Typhon skill trees. For example, you need to pass a door. Without skill, you must turn off a power switch. With Human skill, you can hack. With Typhon, mimic a small object and pass through the gap. The world map isn't linear, but as you progress you'll unlock new sections as well as shortcuts. Basically, an indoor open-world game like Control. There are also sidequests you can take, usually assisting NPCs. The thing I dislike about this game is ironically the combat. Maybe it's because I'm too familiar with Dishonored, but combat here feels like a shooter game. You cannot stealth kill or takedown enemies, you can only hit them while hidden which does extra damage. It's not really bad since BioShock is that way too, but I'd love a little more stealth since the developers clearly have experience at it. Overall, Prey is a really great game, probably one of the best immersive sims. If you like those kinds of games like the ones I mentioned, you'll definitely have a great time playing it. And like any imsim you should experience the many, flexible ways to progress.
