Its a fantastic choice filled FPS immersive sim rpg. Think Deus Ex, Bioshock and System Shock and you have the idea. It also has many metroidvania vibes in a way. The game has this sandbox feel where if you can think of doing something, then most likely you can. And it feels like "sequence breaking" when you pull it off.
Also, plays well on a multimedia laptop with integrated graphics.
Can easily be counted among one of the greats among the immersive sims.
Great story, great and open gameplay.
Even a few hours in, I still find new and interesting ways to solve problems.
The skill treee is fairly rich, with a good combination of abilities that either gives an advantage in combat, gives more ways to access the levels, or sometimes both.
Resources are abundant but not infinite on normal difficulty, and conserving them by finding clever solutions is needed for a sustainable playthrough.
After playing this a few times, knowing how it ends, how your decisions matter - and what the game world exists for, I find myself constantly coming back to ponder this game. Not just the deep philosophical questions it raises, but because it was just so darned fun to play.
In a nutshell Prey is worth the $8 but the gameplay is not great. Spend more time wandering all over the station looking for a key, a code that you only find out about when you get to an objective and it is locked. Map could be way more intuitive and the helpers are rather useless - go there oh ya need a key - turn around hunt for said key. Go back and try again. Opps forgot to mention the evil killing machine on other side. oh well - live 'n learn
Beautiful game, but alas, I couldn't get past the first zero g mission. The controls/physics are entirely broken. Character doesn't move in the direction of control, plus if you even move near an object, you get flung off into random directions at random (but pretty high) speeds only to start moving at another random, high speed direction after a bit. It's happened every single time I've tried to play that mission, and since it's not too long into the game, I can't progress. I can be at total rest, then I start moving randomly (playing on kb and mouse, so I know 100% there's no stick drift or other stupidity causing this). And once moving, the random pinball mechanics start up. Since it's from 2017, I highly doubt any fixes or patches are coming, so unfortunately, this leaves it in a broken state where I can't continue. Maybe a Windows 11 thing, because I have the game installed on both my desktop and laptop, the former with AMD and the latter with Nvidia. Issue occurs on both, so it's not a GPU issue. Super disappointed, because I really wanted to like it. Was enjoying the heck out of it until encountering this game ruining bug.
