And that's the reason for the low score. If it had been promoted as "Thief: Deadly Shadows in space", I'd give it a solid 4.5. But being promoted as "SS2 alike", it gets a 3. I'll just put the cons ahead so that any SS2 fan knows the issues: It's excruciatingly slow and boring. Combat is trash. Rarely do you feel "in the story", you just feel like you're moving though "quest markers" but with little sense of "personal investment" for the most part. (which is doubly egregious given the game's end) There, that's it. While SS2 makes you move at a decent pace throughout but forces you into careful considerations at points, Prey is a sloghfest until you suddenly have enough neuromods that it has ZERO challenge. It's like playing Thief:DS, but unlike Thief:DS where there's always a challenge, in Prey eventually there is none, because you went from "glass not cannon" to "whatever dude... I'll sneeze on you and kill you" The pros: Beautiful aesthetics. If Art Deco in space is your dream, Prey has it. Unlike SS2's grim oppressive Sci-Fi interior, Prey's environment is a thing of beauty. With this in mind, if at discount, it's OK'ish value. Just don't expect SS2 as it is not...

This feels like best of breed for it's genre. Highly recommend.

For a merge of Bethesda and Arcane, this is their weakest efforts in history. Putting asides the numerous amounts of bugs and clunky UI, there's nothing here that's gone beyond Half Life 1 in the AI department. And the story is beyond generic, pretending to give the player some agency at the end, but not really. There was the opportunity to do something interesting and sandbox-y with the alien tech, but it's as generic as it gets. Vanilla characters and even the soundtrack is very forgettable. Recycling junk and creating inventory was the only fun component of the game.
