Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition Official Soundtrack
Description
Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition includes the unaltered original version and the Enhanced Edition in one definitive collection exclusively on GOG.com. (The original version will be automatically added to your account after purchase.) The original Planescape: Torment was released in 1999 to widespread critical acclaim. It won RPG of the Year from multiple outlets for its unconventional story, characters, and amazing soundtrack. Since then, millions of Planescape: Torment fans have enjoyed exploring the strange and dangerous city of Sigil and surrounding planes through the Nameless One's eyes.

Discover an incredibly rich story and a setting unlike anything else in fantasy. Defeat strange and alien creatures, engage in rich dialogue, and explore the dark and dangerous Planescape setting in this 50+ hour RPG classic.

This is Planescape: Torment like you’ve never seen before."What can change the nature of a man?" - You are the Nameless One, a hulking figure covered in scars and tattoos collected over the course of countless lives—none of which you can remember, but are now coming back to haunt you. You are prodded awake by Morte, a floating skull and keeper of secrets, to embark on an adventure taking The Nameless One from the dirty streets of Sigil into the mysterious Outer Planes and even into the depths of Hell itself.

Portals riddle the planar metropolis of Sigil, providing access to anywhere in existence, but only if you have the proper key. Known as the "City of Doors," Sigil is a neutral ground where demons, devas, and races from across the multiverse gather under the watchful shadow of the Lady of Pain, the city's enigmatic ruler. This is a place where the word is mightier than the sword, where thought defines reality, and belief has the power to reshape worlds.

In your search for answers, you'll find companions matching the bizarre nature of the planes: a chaste succubus who can kill with a kiss, a confused crossbow-wielding cube, a suit of armor animated by a spirit demanding JUSTICE, and more. With these companions and others at The Nameless One’s side, you will explore worlds in search of answers, all to discover that some destinies cannot be escaped and some memories cost more than an even an immortal can bear.

You can get mods for FREE! Why pay?

This is just my humble opinion and it pertains to those who already own the older version: I recently started playing Planescape again (prior to the release of this version) and I downloaded and installed a few mods to improve the experience. Shortly after, I saw that an updated version was coming out, so I decided to wait and buy / play the newer version. What I've noticed is that there are very few worth-while differences between the updated "Enhanced Edition" and the free mods that upscale graphics, improve some functions, and fix common bugs. After playing for several days, I really just wish I hadn't wasted the $20. The older game plays just as well with a few mods that I found for free online as the enhanced edition does and they didn't cost me anything extra.

Decent game, Linux installer has issues

Decent game, love the concept. The latest Linux installer (planescape_torment_enhanced_edition_3_1_4_26532.sh) has some issues though on modern distros though (I'm on Fedora 37)... it's not that difficult to fix, but some might be disappointed that it doesn't "just work" Essentially, it is missing some libraries (libssl.so.1.0.0 which has been replaced by openssl-libs) that are not present on modern distros. It is pretty easy to fix and the game will work just fine, even on non-Ubuntu distros. I hope the devs will consider releasing a patch on GOG in the future. Especially, considering that the libraries in question are open-source and could possibly be packaged with or downloaded by the installer... that is what that other "heated water vapor" client does ;-) The way I fixed it was by following some advice on the GOG forums to create a "lib" folder under the game's install folder and copying the missing libraries under this folder. I heard of some folks mentioning that they found the older library files on I think Debian servers... but I just got mine out of a folder from the "heated water vapor" client app under my ~/.local/share//ubuntu12_32/-runtime/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu folder and copied the entire folder's contents to the "lib" dir under the game's install dir. After that, just use a text editor and add 1 line near the start.sh file. I put mine on the second line, immediately after the first line with bash - which you should keep as the first line. The line I added looked like this: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/full/path/to/game-install-dir/lib" After adding that, everything works great and I can launch the game from the normal menu/deskop launcher with no issues. Sound works, mouse & kb works, etc.

An esoteric tale spanning dimensions.

The short version: It's great! One of the better games I've played, period. Planescape: Torment is, in essence, a story about a man, (the protagonist), and all the peculiar events he comes into contact with, while trying to unravel the mystery of who he is. This is the same Beamdog Enhanced Edition as in BG1 & BG2. Your mileage will vary on that, but I like this version. It features QoL improvements like widescreen, among other things. As far as gameplay goes, this is more of a narrative game than the BG games. It's like a visual novel, incorporating some D&D and Lovecraft-esque concepts. If you like novel-style writing with highly-detailed world-building, then this is your game. The writing never stops being top notch, even when nothing of particular importance is going on. If you don't like reading, well, that's going to be a pickle. Maybe on sale? "Planescape" refers to the many planes in the universe, such as The Nine Hells, Limbo, and the Material Plane (where we live), among many others. Sigil, the "City of Doors", is plane/city that has portals to all other planes. Because of that, it is a popular destination for travel, relaxation, and trade. Sigil is your character's main jumping-off point, so you'll be spending a good deal of your game time there. Your character is pre-defined, as are all hirable party NPCs. This allows for a more detailed and specific narrative. You are "The Nameless", a man made of scars, who cannot die. But thanks to recurring amnesia, he does not know why. He revisits people and places from his past, trying to piece together clues of what's going on. The recruitable NPCs are a motely crew of a wisecracking flying skull, an eccentric warrior-sage, a benevolent succubus, and a feisty thief, among others. You will have access to them as the story dictates, or by coincidental discovery, so never expect a full party. It's not a hardcore game, so it's less important. Overall, it's great! The best "reading" game I've ever played!

Best writing video games history??

This game blew me away! I started is a few times in the past decade but never got past a few hours in sadly. Don't know why, there's no particular reason to it. But I started it now and played through the whole damn thing, it was a MASTERPIECE... It's like playing a novel, reading a lot, and fighting a few times (compared to other titles), moving between NPC-s and interacting with every damn thing in the game, so you get a better picture about this awesome world. The ending hours are so heavy, I even cried a little, it was so beautiful, love it. The game even asks a few philosphical questions like "What can change the nature of a man?" or what's the purpose of life, every action we take in life has a consequence to it. Seriously, kudos to everybody who worked on this world and on this game. Definitely earns one of the best spots in video game history!

Pinnacle of RPG without modern meddling

The game is same as original, just with bug fixes, improved UI and graphic update for modern systems. EXACTLY what I want to see from games using old source material, not meddling and injecting current "Social issues" into a 20 year old game. I never played this game back in the day and Im really really enjoying playing it today for the first time.
