Still The Best Co-Op CRPG Ever Made

There are a lot of misleading reviews here, so I want to throw in my 2 cents. NWN is the best CRPG ever made for multiplayer coop play. That hasn't changed. Has Beamdog cheese-bagged consumers by locking the diamond edition? Yes. But that doesn't change the quality of the game. Has Beamdog enhanced the game? No. Not really, but that doesn't change the quality of the game either. Is NWN still worth $20? That's a pretty subjective question, but I paid it (back before I had money to spend on this kind of thing). While there are plenty of valid reasons to criticize Beamdog, they can be credited with keeping this game alive. They haven't contributed much to "enhancing" the game, and they certainly could have. The original campaign has ALWAYS needed a prelude chapter... But , no. It's the same game. Same outdated graphics. Same boring, cliched, voice sets. What Beamdog HAS done is fixed broken game functions, and they continue to support the game. As far as I'm concerned that's a service to cRPG fans everywhere. Neverwinter nights was, and is likely to remain for the foreseeable future, the best online co-op RPG experience in gaming. The included module construction toolset and DM client puts this system in a league of it's own. It is fully backwards compatible with old fan content and mods, and while the game itself is, as mentioned, basically unchanged they have added some minor, but useful, functionality to the toolset. I have been a DM since 1980 and I just bought copies of this game for my entire gaming group as a fathers day treat for myself. I am looking forward to DMing a custom module for them, probably more than they are looking forward to playing it. They would, I am quite certain, prefer to continue our normal 5th Edition Fantasy Grounds campaign. That will change after session 1. It ALWAYS does. Buy this game. If it's not worth $20 to you wait for a sale and pay $5, but BUY IT.

15 minute load times between areas

This game is terrible. I have to wait 15 minutes between areas. Also, GOG support is non-existent. Many other (per the forum) people have had this same problem and NOT ONE person from GOG has spoken up about this issue. Occasionally someone will speak up about the specs of one's computer. Thanks guy. My computer runs Skyrim without a hitch. This game should not be a problem. I know things happen, but what bothers me is that GOG has become completely irresponsive. Don't sell me products that don't work.

Foul-tasting thing! Hit it again!

If DnD could be considered a genre, it would be my favorite. This is a rare, solo game (single player campaign, at least). First off, EE has UI scaling (up to 1.5)! That's a big deal to play this on a contemporary computer! Last time I played through Diamond, I could find no such mod/override and had to turn down the resolution so I could read what was on screen! This feature, alone, is worth 1 star. - A lil rest override to speed up the duration of the resting animation from 5s to 200ms. - Tweak encumbrance (even though using a STR-based build), via override, so that I don't have to constantly mess around with inventory management, magic bags, constantly going back to sell stuff, etc. - Boots of Speed consoled in to make movement speed faster, as it's too slow, by default (unless you're using, say, a monk). - Difficulty to max. We're ready to kick ass. - The pathfinding is still pretty awful. 3-point turns are too prominent. - The keyholing is a nice feature for better visibility. - Set a key to scroll all the way out, as it will constantly tamper with view distancing. - OST is pretty darned tootin. - AI will occasionally disengage, whilst enemies swing away at you. Unlike my prior 2 runs, with Diamond, I went with a straight up thug, devoid of subtleties (Fighter/WM/Bard), and it was foolishly dominant, even on the hardest difficulty. And I didn't have to constantly worry about looking for places to rest, to get back spells/abilities. HotU is top 2-3 expansions ever made, with the likes of Lord of Destruction, Throne of Bhaal, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, and HL2 Ep2. Must get Enserric - love that sword! Along with the male manic psychotic voice set - hilarious. I know people complain about the Deluxe Edition, but when it's @ 90% off, it's one of the best deals in gaming. Yes, most of the premium stuff is awful, but I am looking forward to playing EOB 1 and 2 in the Aurora Engine! And you get the Diamond Edition, as well, iffen you prefer.

No need for this.

Beamdog should focus on "enhancing"/fixing other titles, like Temple of Elemental Evil or Pool of Radiance.

This is not about Enhanced edition

I honestly don't really pay attention to enhanced edition stuff. I just bought this because you can get diamond edition and I heard enhanced doesn't really change much anyway. What I'm here to talk about is how poorly this game has aged comparatively to Neverwinter Nights 2. First off, AI is TERRIBLE. Having henchmen almost hurts you more then helps but thankfully they still serve as decent meat shields. Spell casters are the worst henchmen to have because they just don't understand what spells need to be cast in what situation. This wouldn't be a problem if you were able to control your henchmen at all but for whatever god forsaken reason you just aren't. If the enhanced edition ever introduces an option from this that is as intuitive as NWN2's party controls then I will be more receptive to NWN but until then it's just bad. Then there's the UI itself is pretty horrid. In the inventory there's no way to collapse items or auto sort or anything along those lines so it's very easy to lose items if you are picking up a bunch and you're not able to sort out what you want and what you don't. Some items even have the same exact icon which compounds this problem so if you're trying to make a quick shop run you may accidently sell something you actually need. What sucks is that there's a bunch of paid campaign content for this game that seems really awesome and as someone that plays these kind of games for single player I want to like this game because I think some of these campaigns are written beautifully. I just cannot stand the gameplay while I can't control my henchmen and while the general UI just seems so bad. There are mods that kind of tackle these issues but I really don't mess with mods because it's hard to tell what's actually going to work and what's simply going to be busted. In conclusion if issues with AI and UI don't bother you, then get this game because it has a lot of great isngleplayer content in my opinion. If AI and UI do bother you stay clear
