This is not about Enhanced edition

I honestly don't really pay attention to enhanced edition stuff. I just bought this because you can get diamond edition and I heard enhanced doesn't really change much anyway. What I'm here to talk about is how poorly this game has aged comparatively to Neverwinter Nights 2. First off, AI is TERRIBLE. Having henchmen almost hurts you more then helps but thankfully they still serve as decent meat shields. Spell casters are the worst henchmen to have because they just don't understand what spells need to be cast in what situation. This wouldn't be a problem if you were able to control your henchmen at all but for whatever god forsaken reason you just aren't. If the enhanced edition ever introduces an option from this that is as intuitive as NWN2's party controls then I will be more receptive to NWN but until then it's just bad. Then there's the UI itself is pretty horrid. In the inventory there's no way to collapse items or auto sort or anything along those lines so it's very easy to lose items if you are picking up a bunch and you're not able to sort out what you want and what you don't. Some items even have the same exact icon which compounds this problem so if you're trying to make a quick shop run you may accidently sell something you actually need. What sucks is that there's a bunch of paid campaign content for this game that seems really awesome and as someone that plays these kind of games for single player I want to like this game because I think some of these campaigns are written beautifully. I just cannot stand the gameplay while I can't control my henchmen and while the general UI just seems so bad. There are mods that kind of tackle these issues but I really don't mess with mods because it's hard to tell what's actually going to work and what's simply going to be busted. In conclusion if issues with AI and UI don't bother you, then get this game because it has a lot of great isngleplayer content in my opinion. If AI and UI do bother you stay clear

Continuing NWN into the future

I've put more time into this game (in its various incarnations) than all others combined over my lifetime, I figure. I could write a lot more but will focus on the current value of NWN:EE. If you played NWN multiplayer and want to do it again, in a small group (with or without a DM) or on bigger community servers, the MP client and server setup is much more robust, stable and easy to use. No more port forwarding for the average wireless LAN setup. There are a large number of NWN:EE persistent worlds (PWs) online and it's easy to set up your own MP game with the original campaign or a large number of community modules and campaigns. You will have to look up online how to launch the DM client with a shortcut command, but at least it's still included - no other game has one - and there are easy-to-follow community multiplayer guides for both the technical and roleplay functions. The official campaign's single-player experience was never great, compared to Infinity Engine and others; Hordes of the Underdark is an exception. That said, a number of the old Hall of Fame community modules are well worth the time, some of them equaling other full games in story and adventure value, and new ones are still being created. The graphics are in fact measurably better and work on modern systems, but are not completely overhauled. C'est la vie. Essentially there are a number of improvements, bugfixes and ongoing developer support for the modding community, so if you liked NWN before, or just want to play D&D on the computer with a near-infinite supply of content, offline and online, this is the option that will continue into the future.

THe game itself

I have the Diamond Edition that's been pulled back, so leaving review here. I learned English with this game. It's so close to my heart that I feel it's integrate part of my childhood. There are so many better games out there, but this defined who I am in a sense. I think it's a great game to start figuring out your way through CRPG world. The story is epic and intricate, though it lacks depth. I feel it's like reading a comic book or a fun weekend novel compared to BG II, PS:T, that are like reading a Bible, or Dostoyevsky

a must have

DO NOT pay attention to the overall rating. most bad reviews have been written by people who DON'T even own that version of NWN (check if it says verified Owner, almost none of them owns it). they're just here to rant about beamdog. besides, most of those crpg veterans don't even like NWN, they never did actually. just get that game, it's great. NWN original campaign isn't more bland than any other crpg, like lol, the crpg community is praising BG1 which is one of the MOST generic/bland crpg i've ever played (still love it tho) but NWN is bad because it's bland. sure lol. plus, it's a very charming crpg, great character creation, it also has tons of good modules, graphics from EE are way better looking than they originally were, characters are very well written and endearing etc. NWN is one of the most solid crpg i've played.
