Welcome back to Neverwinter!

Bards sing tales of heroes in ages past, but they rarely mention those that are yet to become heroes. One such hero is a farmer in the small village of West Harbor. Raised by the elven ranger, Daeghun, as his own child, our hero will embark on a grandiose quest against the King of Shadows. Neverwinter Nights 2 is the tale of his deeds. His adventures continue in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Our protagonist discovers that an ominous spell has fallen on him. A curse of perpetual hunger--one which can only be quelled by consuming the souls of spirits. In order to remove the curse, he has to travel to the Shadow Realm, which harbors dark secrets and tormented souls.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir gives as a breather from grand quests of destiny and epic ordeals. You simply assemble a group of four adventurers (either by carefully picking out each of their statistics and skills or by randomly re-rolling your characters until you find the ones that suit you) and go where the wind takes you. Just make sure to get a good look at the map as you will need it to explore the wide open region of Samarach and the Sword Coast. Then, yet another adventure: in an ancient and forgotten tomb you found an unusual mask. It made you quite powerful but changed your life into a living nightmare. Strange, terrifying visions torment your psyche. Every time you try to get rid of the accursed mask, it secretly makes its way back to you. There's just one solution: set sail for Westgate and discover the secret of the Night Masks in Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete is an epic RPG set in the fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms, one of the most popular campaign settings of Dungeons & Dragons. Use all the wicked spells, feats, and prestige classes from the D&D 3.5 rules. Create your characters any way you wish, choosing from a wide variety of races and subraces, such as Tiefling and Aasimar. As if the pre-made campaigns weren't enough, you can take the reins and use the powerful Obsidian Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset to make your own adventures and share them with friends!

  • Neverwinter Nights 2: Complete includes the original game, and three expansions: Mask of the Betrayer, Storm of Zehir, and Mysteries of Westgate.
  • Create and host your own solo and multiplayer D&D adventures using the improved Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset.
  • Rediscover many familiar locations and reunite with your companions from the Neverwinter Nights series.
  • More than 100 hours of immersive adventure across four campaigns, all rendered in breathtaking detail.

4.5 to 5 Stars, a classic gem

In terms of sheer value alone, you need to get this if you've never played it. You will get over 100 hours of content without mods easily. More likely 120 hours plus, for 15 dollars, in a game with relatively good graphics (spells are awesome!) for 2006. Sadly this game was near unplayable at launch, but numerous patches have made it worth it. As cliche as the original campaign is, it's a cliche story done damn well with very memorable characters. (My personal favorite being Ammon Jerro, the posterboy for "neutral evil") Mask of the Betrayer took everything you loved about the OC and made it epic. It took everything you hated about the OC and made it better. While the game engine provided some limitations (primarily the camera) MOTB was one of the pinnacles of RPG's for the PC. No storyline since has come close to matching it. The guys at Obsidian are master storytellers, and they really shine here. The difficulty is really ramped up, and you'll find it obscenely cheap at the start of MOTB, but you simply have to adjust. Storm of Zehir is the sleeper of this product. It isn't an epic story, but it is probably the one with the most charm. Very folksy style where you grab an adventure party and see where the world takes you. Mysteries of Westgate obtained a bit of a cult following, but it really wasn't for me. Not much polish and too many holes. Maybe I'll play it again and see if 5 years have been kind to it. But really, get this game.

Buggy as hell

This game makes my video card screech - it is the ONLY game that makes my video card screech - it crashes randomly and often, it often fail to trigger quest events and, considering the outdated graphics, it has amazingly slow frame rate and environment items skin loads. Note that you MUST keep several save files and switch between them regurlarly, if you intend to play this game, because you never know when a game breaking bug or corrupted save file will strike next! Also know that my system can run the Witcher 3 on decent settings, and that I have downloaded the latest patch for NWN2 so it aint got nothing to do with my rig. Also note that you can run NWN (the first one) on a 10 year old computer, no problem, with PRC installed to get all classes and more, and that game is amazingly stable, and the graphics are actually quite comparable to this one. Other than that is it worthwhile? Well... it a light hearted fantasy romp with writing on pair with the hollywood hacks that gave you all those sitcoms nobody ever watches. The most fun part of the game is actually leveling, to try out different class combinations. But if you were expecting an epic saga like Baldurs Gate or FF7, or incredibly intricate combats, where your strategy skills are tested to the limit, like Banner Saga or Divinity 2, then prepare to be disappointed. I would give it a three if it wasnt for the constant crashes and bugs. I want to like this game, I really do, but after reloading following another crash / bug and being thrown back half an hour worth of gameplay for the tenth time... urghhh!

How much time in a life?

I have played this game for thousands of hours. I have loved, lost, been imprisoned, amputated, conquered city states with nothing but a small band and some good gear, slogged through swamps, traversed peaks, fought giants and dragons, caused giants to fight dragons, made my choices and stuck with them then played again to make different ones. This (and it's predecessor ) are the very best games I have ever played. If you like living through well crafted stories, would prefer to let your build win combats to further the story rather than your thumbs taking a reflex test at every turn, and like a lot of community made story content as well as qol--This is a game you should try

Why NWN 2 Complete is still the King

While this review will be expanded upon later, I wanted to share my immediate thoughts on Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete. The recent release of Aspyr's Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition, coupled with the initial player impressions that left me quite perplexed, ultimately swayed my decision towards purchasing Obsidian's original Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete. I must extend my sincerest gratitude to GOG, as well as the dedicated community and passionate players who have kept this game alive and thriving, as this choice has, so far, proven to be an absolute success. The game runs perfectly on my system, taking up less than 8GB of disk space (a welcome change from the much larger footprint and significantly higher price tag of the newer version). This alone makes the GOG Complete edition a far more compelling and cost-effective choice. As an Italian player, I am particularly pleased that, with just a small effort and the invaluable help of the community, I was able to fully restore the complete Italian localization (both text and dubbing). I look forward to delving deeper into the game, and my full judgment on its gameplay, story, and other aspects will follow in a future update to this review!

One forgotten gem

Back in 2006 this game was somewhat described as a bug with a game inside. Dramatic. Fun but full of bugs that made it hard to enjoy. But now, after expansions and numerous patches... It became a classic and the best D&D 3.5 - a timeless and ageless near-perfect version of this hugely popular RPG system - out there. Well, you'll not get that insane amount of prestige classes, but still, we got some of the best within this game. This version of Neverwinter Nights 2 right here got rid of many, MANY of the bugs that infested that game and made it almost a joke. It's like that weird movie of 15 years ago that ONLY NOW got the perspective it needed to be fully understood. And, my friends, IT SHINES so wonderfully... We got here an official campaign that has it flaws but works great. The companions are so colorful and your decision makes a huge difference upon their perspective they got of you, in all aspects. Then we get some really, REALLY good expansions - one of D&D epic levels and one that is a full classic D&D adventure with a full custom party build almost entirely by you. It resembles some Baldur's Gate sometimes. Do we still got bugs? Oh yeah, we surely do. But hey, this is stiil a great game. I played for years and years the classic pen-and-paper D&D with my friend, mainly on my teenagehood and gotta say this game emulates that nostalgic, beautiful and living feel. A forgotten gem of a forgotten realm... Just buy it.
