Description

Five hundred years ago, an ancient and well respected Shaolin fighting tournament, held every 50 years, was corrupted by an evil and elderly sorcerer by the name of Shang Tsung. Shang was accompanied by Prince Goro, a warrior of the Shokan race (a four-armed half-human / half-dragon). Knowing that if ten tournaments in a row were won by the Outworld champion, the Earth Realm would be conquered by evil and fall into darkness, Shang entered Goro in the tournament and had him defeat the great Kung Lao. Goro has been reigning supreme as the undefeated fighting champion for five hundred years now. As the last tournament required draws near, Raiden, Thunder God and protector of the Earth Realm, enacts a plan to tip the scales in the humans' favor, Seven fighters step into the arena on Shang Tsung's mysterious island: Shaolin warrior Liu Kang, Special Forces operative Sonya Blade, the mercenary thug Kano, fame-seeking actor Johnny Cage, the ice-wielding Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero and his undead adversary Scorpion, and Raiden himself.

Works and Works Well

I've played all three Mortal Kombat games in this bundle and I'll say that they're good offerings. They're based on the DOS versions of Mortal Kombat that came out back in the 90s so if you have memories of that, you're definitely in the right place. There are specific commands that you should seek out for these DOS versions in order to know what the default key assignments are and how to get into the game's menu for things like dip switches, unlimited credits, etc. (at least a few reviews on this site point the way as to what those keys are). You're also able to map keyboard keys in DOSBox to a controller that you have plugged into your computer so there's that. Now, once you have the controls setup to your liking, you're playing Mortal Kombat! MK1 plays responsively and is... as you might remember it, with all of its fun and quirks. MK 2 is much the same story and I've even been told that its one of the more forgiving home ports of the game. MK3 plays like a dream and is close to the arcade having CD quality soundtrack instead of MIDI this time. Overall a good bargain but just keeping in mind that key binding or rebinding in DOSBox is recommended.

Bad release

In MK1 and MK2 you can set up the keys on your controller and play if you follow instructions on gog support page, but in UMK3 the character keeps jumping backwards all the time, keys don't respond to what you push and it seems like someone else is pushing the buttons simultaneously when you're doing it. I bought this release mainly for UMK3 so I give 2 stars because of that

Bad control and poor DosBox setup

The game is great but need more work to be good , this Dos PC version are amazing , but is not running well in original grafics setup and controls compatible . To fix aspect ratio and use Desk resolution go to the game install folder and run "DosBoxMortalKombat.config" using note , in [sdl] menu insert "0x0" in "fullresolution" , so "fullresolution=0x0", in the next line "output" chose "ddraw" like this "output=ddraw"

Kontrols

MK1 Keyboard Kontrols (haven't tried the other two yet) F1 = Start F10 = Konfigure S = Up Z = Left X = Down C= Right U = High Punch I = High Kick J = Block / Karacter Select N = Low Punch M = Low Kick So far my gamepad just wants to go bottom right. I'm sure if I had a decent kontroller I kould addjust for this game.
