Description

Five hundred years ago, an ancient and well respected Shaolin fighting tournament, held every 50 years, was corrupted by an evil and elderly sorcerer by the name of Shang Tsung. Shang was accompanied by Prince Goro, a warrior of the Shokan race (a four-armed half-human / half-dragon). Knowing that if ten tournaments in a row were won by the Outworld champion, the Earth Realm would be conquered by evil and fall into darkness, Shang entered Goro in the tournament and had him defeat the great Kung Lao. Goro has been reigning supreme as the undefeated fighting champion for five hundred years now. As the last tournament required draws near, Raiden, Thunder God and protector of the Earth Realm, enacts a plan to tip the scales in the humans' favor, Seven fighters step into the arena on Shang Tsung's mysterious island: Shaolin warrior Liu Kang, Special Forces operative Sonya Blade, the mercenary thug Kano, fame-seeking actor Johnny Cage, the ice-wielding Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero and his undead adversary Scorpion, and Raiden himself.

Re-live this arcade classic with the first 3 instalments of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Power through on-on-one combat with special multi-button attacks and moves unique to each character, including the famous fatality. In this bundle die-hard Mortal Kombat fans can move on to the third instalment which introduces network play, where they can challenge other die-hard friends to see who is truly the king of kombat. Other features include dial-a-combo attacks, a run button to speed up battles, and vs codes, which unlock new powers and abilities once both players enter a code sequence in pre-match-up screens.

Toasty!

The problems are numerous (all games)... - Off-centered 4:3 screens. You can probably mess with DOSBox settings, to, maybe, affect this, but that should be out-of-the-box. - The games likely won't recognize any remotely kontemporary gamepad; you'll need something like Logitech Profiler. Somebody here did mention you might be able to edit DOSBox konfig to allow. I do have a Gravis gamepad hidden in my kloset - I shoulda done broke it out. - Some kompromises from arcade versions, like MK2's music - holy. - No game pausing. MK1 & 2 - Instead of having menu options, like a sane game coder, it's F1 to start player 1, F10 for konfig, and CTRL+F9 (DOSBox) to quit. - Only 4 kredits, iffen you don't enable cheats. MK2... Affecting the DIP switches to enable freeplay (unlimited kontinues) is nigh impossible on a kontemporary, fast komputer. The code, in prototypical Noob schtick, are the backwards spelling of 2 associate producers...which is hard to type, as it's nonsensical. So, whip out your trusty hex editor and modify mk2.exe... 1E 17 2E 16 26 12 20 1F 1F 16 26 ...with... 43 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ...now, on the kredits screen, you just hit F9 to get the "ding" of successfully entered code, and F9 again to bring up DIP. MK3... - This game made me feel like I was taking krazy pills - had to disable joystick in DosboxMortalKombat3.conf because there was a permanent up+left being input to the game (even in menu options). - You have ~2s to make your kharacter selection, before it auto-selects. WTF? I had to look quickly, after first few times, to make sure I kould get my kracklin' killer kritical Kabal kombos. There is an MK Kollection of these 3, though I've not tried it... ...seems as though, maybe, MK hasn't gotten the love of its superior, rival franchise, SF (30th Anniversary Kollection). I hate to say it, but just MAME the arcade kabinets to get a proper experience. PS Damn you, Kintaro, with your cheap unblockables, and anti-air block+throw tactics.

no point without controller support....

Can't use controller. The menu flips out and move around without me doing anything this version is trash. You're better off using an emulator. Luckily I payed it when it was on 75% discount otherwise I would be mad. How can a fighting game not have controller support? What is the point?

happy to get the game of my childhood

THis DOSbox is worthless if you want to use your keyboard your set. But if you have a controller.. let alone a fightstick which is what I was trying to use. IT will not map it right! It will not do anything right. I followed what GOG and what DOSbox help said. didnt work! My fighter would teabag to just spam jump, stay crouched. I am very upset with this bundle.

Works fine

Have just brought this trilogy and I'm not experiencing the issues which a lot of you have. The game works fine on my Windows 10 PC ( Intel I9 and RTX 2080) I have even tried this on a Surface Pro (Intel I5 and Intel 520) and it has no issues. For those who have mentioned the pixelated screens this can be improved by adding a different render. If you go to the directory where the game is installed and open the file dosboxMortalKombat with notepad, you will see a section shown below [render] frameskip=0 aspect=false scaler=none By default the scaler is none however it can be one of the following : none, normal2x, normal3x, advmame2x, advmame3x, advinterp2x, advinterp3x, hq2x, hq3x, 2xsai, super2xsai, supereagle, tv2x, tv3x, rgb2x, rgb3x, scan2x, scan3x. Some try to smooth the pixelation, some add scan-lines etc.. You could also try the setting fullresolution, this can be original or fixed size (e.g. 1024x768). I haven't tried mapping controller to the keyboard, ill update will my findings...

Broken ports

These ports do not function properly. The game and sound are decent enough (except MK2) but not arcade perfect. They are definitely closer to console ports if you were expecting an arcade experience. MK1 and 3 look and sound decent enough, but 2 has awful scaling, terrible FPS and the sound sounds like it was done on a budget with a Casio. The controls hardly work. They're old PC ports so keyboard works best, but the controllers hardly register and if they do they're all incorrect. 1 and 2 will only register up to 4 button controlers through emulation and Klassic MK games need at least 5. Dropped the ball pretty hard on that. Could not get an Wireless Xbox controller to work nor my arcade stick. I don't know who this collection is supposed to appeal to except someone who who wants to fine tune a game for hours and never actually play it.
