Description

Five hundred years ago, an ancient and well respected Shaolin fighting tournament, held every 50 years, was corrupted by an evil and elderly sorcerer by the name of Shang Tsung. Shang was accompanied by Prince Goro, a warrior of the Shokan race (a four-armed half-human / half-dragon). Knowing that if ten tournaments in a row were won by the Outworld champion, the Earth Realm would be conquered by evil and fall into darkness, Shang entered Goro in the tournament and had him defeat the great Kung Lao. Goro has been reigning supreme as the undefeated fighting champion for five hundred years now. As the last tournament required draws near, Raiden, Thunder God and protector of the Earth Realm, enacts a plan to tip the scales in the humans' favor, Seven fighters step into the arena on Shang Tsung's mysterious island: Shaolin warrior Liu Kang, Special Forces operative Sonya Blade, the mercenary thug Kano, fame-seeking actor Johnny Cage, the ice-wielding Lin Kuei warrior Sub-Zero and his undead adversary Scorpion, and Raiden himself.

Don't Buy These

You're better off not spending the money on these ports. If your willing to chase down controllers to use with these games then it will be worth it but using the PC controls is about as effective as you telling your Mom that not every console is called Nintendo. They feel like she was probably the one programing them too.

Controllers do work with this collection

A lot of the negative reviews here are saying that you can't use a controller with these games. This is false. You need the third party app AntimicroX in order to map the keyboard controls to a standard controller. Granted it does suck that this release doesn't have native controller support, but with this work around, you can play the games in this Kollection with any PC controller. I'm using a PC Xbox controller, and it's working without issue. Now to review the actual games in this Kollection. These games are the PC DOS versions, and not the original arcade versions. MK1 and 3 are pretty close to being arcade accurate, but MK2 is not the best port with it's subpar graphics and sound. I recommend you pick this Kollection while it's on sale, or just wait for the upcoming Legacy Kollection to drop later this year.

SmallReview + Xbox Controller Drift FIX.

Still a nice bash-em-up, spent way, way to many afternoons on this as a teenager at the arcade. Graphics - Then: Great Now: Poor Sound - Then: Great Now: Average Gameplay Difficulty- Then: DarkSouls Now: StarWars Jedi Fallen Order Using a joystick. Hmmph. I have an Xbox controller. I read and tried what others have said about changing joystick settings. Nothing worked, total drift fest. Then I searched Dosbox's own site and found this nugget:cycles. By default your cycles will be set to either auto or max. Both produce drift. You can ignore the joystick settings in the config. Change the cycles and it works. First, find the dosboxMortalKombat.conf in the Mortal Kombat directory. Open it with Notepad. Scroll down or set find to cpu. At the end of the section you'll see: core=auto cputype=auto cycles=auto cycleup=1000 cycledown=1000 Change it. Here's mine: core=auto cputype=auto cycles=fixed 18000 cycleup=1000 cycledown=1000 The lower the cycles figure, the slower the game will run. Obviously you'll need to experiment to find the best for your PC. And..that's it. MK I with working Xbox controller. P.S. My cpu is a Ryzen 5 2400, if that helps. Also, most powers are dabbing the controller toward bottom left or right depending on direction faced, and hitting punch.

My favorite fighting game series

I miss the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection on the PS3 like you wouldn’t believe. PROS: It’s still technically Mortal Kombat CONS: Only has the vanilla MK3 and not Ultimate MK3, no online play, setting up the controller is annoying, I could only ever get the thumbstick to work and not the D-pad, screen was all stretched out on mine (maybe there is a fix), the character select screen for MK3 only gives you what feels like a millisecond to select a character. THE CONTROLLER ISSUE: I am extremely new to PC gaming and even I was able to figure out how to get a controller working, just follow that guy in the reviews tutorial. I set my layout how I had it for the MK Arcade Kollection on the PS3. Controller used: 8BitDo SN30 pro+ W = Up Thumbstick S = Down Thumbstick A = Left Thumbstick D = Right Thumbstick G = Square (HP) F = Triangle (HK) Q = R1 (BLOCK) E = Cross (LP) R = Circle (LK) T = L1 (Run) F1 = Start F10 = Select

Classic Mortal Kombat

Now that these ports are part of the GOG preservation - they run a lot better! Sadly, the 4 stars is you cannot plug a controller, & play outright. Other than that, I sure hope GOG can fix this in the future or maybe we'll get the remastered versions later this year.
