Momodora was my first metroidvania game. I liked everything about this game. I played on normal difficulty, but got some problems with some bosses, maybe because I'm too old for such games :) But practice makes everything perfect, so I managed to beat the game in 7 hours.
Pros:
- art style looks fancy
- pretty animations
- price is good, especially on discounts
- neat controls
Cons (comparing to steam verion):
- no achievements
- no cloud saves
So if you like short metroidvania with nice animations - it is a best bet, especially on discounts.
[Only 4 stars because I didn't finish yet. But I'm entirely satisfied so far.]
I like Dark Souls but my PC died and I have this tiny laptop. I was searching a game with the same feeling, but with very low requirements, and I think I found it.
What I like with Momodora [so far] :
- A very fluid and pleasant gameplay.
- A difficulty level that suits me very well, and that you can adjust (To give you an idea, I think normal mode is a bit easier than Dark Souls, about the same as Hyperlight Drifter, a bit harder than Binding of Isaac, a lot harder than Bastion, way easier than Spelunky. Hope that helps.)
- Nice designs, graphisms and animation (and everything looks so damn cute !)
- A very good lvl design, with lots of connections, hidden paths, etc.
- The possibility to roam freely in areas you already know, gathering money or simply training.
- Awesome piano musics.
- A quite conventional but nicely done story.
- A lot of charismatic female characters
- French version
What I don't like with Momodora [so far] :
- Some visual clues may be a bit misleading at first, like when your bow is charged, the red frame makes it look like you took a hit.
- I expected a bit more stuff to wear and use (It's seems to be "Hyperlight Drifter" lvl).
- I'm not always sure where to go next.
- The lack of plunging attack (only air strike) can be annoying in a few specific situations.
- The minimap looks really cheap.
- I'm a bit confused by the boss named Lubella (the huge witch you can see in the trailer). The idea of putting such a strongly sexualized character ruins a part of the elegant innocence of this game for me.
As you can see, the cons are quite laughable. So if you liked the trailer and if you're not afraid of games that require a bit of skill, if you like Dark Souls, Hyperlight Drifter and cats, enjoy !
when i bought the game i didn't expect to like this game so much.
i fell in love with the art , music and gameplay, if you are thinking about buying it or not let me tell you one thing ''JUST DO IT'' .
The game is challenging but fun, it runs well with few hiccups. This game is in my opinion a must play title. Has a fantastic atmosphere and great music.
Metroidvania with some punishing combat, and by that I mean enemies dish out insane amounts of damage, something that gets tiresome the more you play as your only healing resource is basically an estus flask (yes, this is a metroidvania with souls delusions). Is because of this I barely stopped to grab any secrets unless they were obvious and got the bad ending for it, and honestly, I don't feel like keep trying.
Good idea, not so good execution, I'd sugget Blasphemous for a better mix of souls-like with metroidvanias
