Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight explores a cursed land in decline. Evil spreads, the dead rise, and corruption reigns. Hope is but a faded memory for all but one, a priestess named Kaho from the village of Lun. An audience with her majesty, the queen, would surely save the land--but time is short and each night darker than the last.
Reverie Under the Moonlight is the fourth entry in the Momodora series, a side-scrolling platformer focused on action gameplay, with melee combos, dodge mechanics and a plethora of items and spells to unleash upon your enemies. Play casually for the rich setting and mysterious story or crank up the difficulty to run your reflexes through a truly brutal gauntlet.

Eccentric allies and foes with compelling personalities
Mysterious lore and rich backstory in events, dialog and item descriptions
there is one boss and there is a town of some kind where i can grind to be able to purchase the 3 items for sale. nothing more happens after that. i would happily play the full version.
This game is a testament to lackluster indie Metroidvania. While I give it 9/10 for graphics and sound, and I love the character design (beautiful and inspired) the gameplay is quite simply broken. The level layouts are poorly designed, enemies early in the game aren't simply hard, but in fact cheap and punishing. Playing this game is an exercise in frustration and while I repeatedly tried to enjoy it (and originally blamed my skills) I eventually began to see that this is just a case of bad game design. The developers did not spend enough time studying the gameplay mechanics of SOTN or any other Castelvania game to understand what makes those titles great. Enemy placement is terrible, hit detection is off, and the game is just cheap as hell in its mechanics.
the default control setup is agony to use. And even though it's listed in the options, there is NO USB CONTROLLER SUPPORT. wth. I had to look up on the forums here to see that the game was lying about this. No scanline option, either.
and the main character can't dash. This might be a minor quibble, but I think all modern Metroidvania titles should have this option.
I thought it was worth a try at five dollars, but now I want a refund. #regrets.
Want an ARPG-style like salt and sanctuary with different items, armors, weapons and stats to level? Well tough luck! This is a generic platformer where you are stuck with your crappy ranged and meelee weapon fort the rest of the game. What is that? Won't it be linear and boring? of course it will! It's the worst cash-in of the 21st century! Avoid as the plague. I got bored and uninstalled this game for the PS4 after a few days. The bosses are unfair and tedious and you get no sense of accomplishment when killing a boss and less rewards for it. This is how you DON'T makes a 2D soulsborne game. Save your money, buy salt and sanctuary in stead.
The Momodora series started as a series of flash games, which, while forgettable, were cute for what they were. This game in particular seems to be no different than its predecessors with one exception: it now has a price tag. I got this game on sale for $4, and it's absolutely not worth any more than that, and the only reason it's worth anything at all is because of the spritework.
Are there any particular noteworthy moments of gameplay? No, the mechanics are minimal and level design basic (outside of a gimmick or two in the final dungeon). What about the soundtrack? Barely exists. Story? Also barely exists and every development is utterly predictable.
Now, I'm not going to say that the game is incompetently made. There are no real bugs I can recall running into and the controls and physics work as they're supposed to. But fundamentally, the game doesn't have anything interesting to offer, any reason to buy it or play it. If you're for whatever reason still interested, I'd suggest checking out Momodora 2. It's a very similar game, but at the very least it's free.
