Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight explores a cursed land in decline. Evil spreads, the dead rise, and corruption reigns. Hope is but a faded memory for all but one, a priestess named Kaho from the village of Lun. An audience with her majesty, the queen, would surely save the land--but time is short and each night darker than the last.
Reverie Under the Moonlight is the fourth entry in the Momodora series, a side-scrolling platformer focused on action gameplay, with melee combos, dodge mechanics and a plethora of items and spells to unleash upon your enemies. Play casually for the rich setting and mysterious story or crank up the difficulty to run your reflexes through a truly brutal gauntlet.

Eccentric allies and foes with compelling personalities
Mysterious lore and rich backstory in events, dialog and item descriptions
The artstyle is cute, but there's some questionable character design thrown in there, which put me off from it. The platforming in this game is okay, and the fighting is a nice challenge, but the story is very generic and didn't offer much to keep me engaged after that one encounter. I regret buying it, but I can see how it might appeal to some people.
So, I am reviewing this after recently playing it earlier this year, and its a good honest attempt at a metroidvainia, but is very basic by todays standards. The first major downside of this game is the length, it's too short, five hours in total for the fourth installment in the series, really? The second downside, what little story there is, can be hard to follow, especially since it serves as a prequel to three other games that also have next to no story, but very rich lore and history behind them; so much so, they got a prequel. The third grip I got, it has recycled asset, from previous games that were done in a different artstyle from this one; yes some of the enemies here stick out like a sore thumb from the new pixel art included in this game, which is superior in comparison to an enemy like bakman, for example. Lastly, The dodging mechanics too, seem limited in comparison to a game like i dunno, blasphimous, which is basically the same idea only it has more story and allows you to perry attacks as well. The pixel art is good, the soundtrack is good, but again, blasphimous has these two factors going for it, and so do many other metriodvainias... so, I can't give it a five star rating in the year 2022.
its good game like metroidvania, but is too pixeled graphics, terrible in big screens.
in resume... very good game to play in small box, minimized screen.
What made me to uninstall the game:
1. Awkward controls (I don't have a game pad, unfortunately), so keyboard is real clumsy, even with redefining controls. Didn't have trouble with Escape Goat 2, for instance.
2. Whatever difficulty level I took, I got killed by 3 hits, ouch. Which would have been fine, except for the 3 and 5 (see below).
3. The enemies' missiles collision detection is ridiculous, meaning the area of effect is huge and too much troubles to avoid them, when you are not sure where the boundaries of a missile are.
4. Sounds are ridiculous and annoying, especially of enemies.
5. Check points... are just plain stupid these days. Avoid at all costs.
6. Graphics... can I get it even more pixelated and indistinct? Nope. Even old SNES and DOS games we re much more detailed.
What's good about the game? I don't know, nothing comes to my mind. Not sure why the game has 4.5 score, really. Honestly tried to give it a go for several times, but nope, not wasting my time.
Giving it 2 stars, just for the work the developers did.
there is one boss and there is a town of some kind where i can grind to be able to purchase the 3 items for sale. nothing more happens after that. i would happily play the full version.
