Once this city used to pulse with energy - dirty and dangerous - but alive and wonderful. Now it is something else.
In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes.
In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted.
You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.
Mirror’s Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.
Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run.
Move yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
Immerse yourself: In first person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
Challenge yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
Free Yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running – what keeps you alive.
When more than 10 years ago i played the demo i was intriged with this parkour simulator after playing the ubisoft prince of persia trilogy and the first assasins creed.
Now after playing dying light, and having at least completed this game i felt this one short and controls sometimes unresponsive.
It is a good first experience with first person parkour and it didn't age bad at all but probably the sequel expanded more and nowadays there are better choices.
Overall this is a good game albeit a short one.
2007 and 2008 were great for games and Mirror's Edge was no exception. Is as playable and as beautiful today as it was back then, time never passed for this title.
Is great having GOG keeping gaming history alive.
Finished this twice (once back on the Xbox360, second and third time on PC) and on my third playthrough now.
It's an excellent port and it was a joy to playthrough it again on much more powerful hardware with higher fps (Xbox360 was 30fps) and prettier graphics.
The game has a unquie art style and it still stands out today because of it, the music and sounds are very ambient and match the games visual style very well to create a wonderful atmosphere, the story
is good enough and the voice acting is decent.
It is exciting at parts to get away from the enemies while doing partkour stuff, the levels are tightly designed (unlike Mirrors Edge Catalyst) and it feels good to jump around most of the time.
There are some briefcases to collect, but that's all you get collectablewise.
The partkour system is good if not perfect, and disarming enemies can be very hit and miss.
Things that are somewhat annoying, you have to build up speed when running by just holding forward which takes a bit of time to bulid up speed, time slowdown cannot be canceled which means if you accidentially press it your stuck in slowdown until it wears out, wall running can feel a little clumsy at times.
Despite the annoying parts this game is enjoyable and stands out, they had a chance to fix these issues in the follow up and they did to some extent buf failed with the open world design and being forced to fight enemies otherwise catalyst would have been better but it's not, Mirrors Edge is still the better title.
Highly reccommened.
Great platforming mechanics, great level design (both aesthetically and for the most part functionally), great combat mechanics, mediocre story (both in content and presentation). Played in 2024, can say it has aged well.
It's a whole game built around parkour movement! And the AESTHETICS are phenomenal. The white city dotted with color gives really cool vibes, and still holds up in 2024.
And running and jumping and sliding across buildings is super fun!
(Our PS4 controller doesn't work, but that might have something to do with the game expecting Xbox controllers. I expected Linux would smooth that out, but I guess not. Mouse and keyboard feels good anyhow.)
