Description
Once this city used to pulse with energy - dirty and dangerous - but alive and wonderful. Now it is something else.

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes.

In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed, your sister has been framed and now you are being hunted.

You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story.

Mirror’s Edge™ delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city you will learn how to run.

  • Move yourself: String together an amazing arsenal of wall-runs, leaps, vaults and more, in fluid, acrobatic movements that turns every level of the urban environment to your advantage and salvation.
  • Immerse yourself: In first person every breath, every collision, every impact is acutely felt. Heights create real vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions and bullet impacts create genuine fear and adrenaline.
  • Challenge yourself: Fight or flight. Your speed and agility allow you not only to evade, capture and perform daring escapes, but also to disable and disarm unwary opponents, in a mix of chase, puzzles, strategy and intense combat.
  • Free Yourself: Runner vision allows you to see the city as they do. See the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, opportunities and escape routes. The flow is what keeps you running – what keeps you alive.

Great game under rated!

The game does a great job of making you feel like a free-runner with a real sense of speed. A unique level design reflecting the setting of a repressive corporate dystopia. The narrative does little but move the game along from level to level. The game isn't very long and can be completed in one setting around 8 hours but has good replay value. The game can be played with a keyboard and mouse but lends it self to an Xbox controller. The only let down to the game is the combat isn't the greatest and can break the flow of the game. Graphically if you play with everything on full including physX the game look great even after 8 years.

FPS platforming done well!

I allready own two coopies of this game and have finished it a few times before. The gameplay is entertaining enough that every so often I boot the sucker up for another go. A lot of people hated this game back in the day for various reasons: The game is too linear, the combat is clunky, FPS platforming is for wusses, the this and the that... But as the new Mirrors Edge has shown us this game is like that for a reason! It's linear so the story can be more involved, the combat is clunky because combat is not advised but still possible and fun! I don't know how people complain about the game being the worst game and getting stuck in sections for hours. I have never had that and I was just a inexperienced knob when this came out. If you just use your brain and look around you will survive no problem. My main complaint is there just isn't enough runny jumpy to go around. I really wish the campaign was a wee bit longer or that they released a expantion pack. Because i like the running and jumping quite a lot. I even dabble in the combat if I'm feeling sassy. This game is still worth your time today as it has always been. if you don't own it this is as good a place as any!

Hallmark of First-Person Platforming

This game is such a gem which reflects that weird era around 2008 where EA were willing to experiment a bit. Tight controls mixed with parkour abilities designed for speed-running linear levels. The plot's rather forgettable, but everything else is on point. Now that's out the way, I want to say I'm quite surprised at how misleading the screenshots on GOG are - particularly the sniping positon overlooking the street. While the person who took these shots has an eye for photogenic picures, they evoke the idea of gameplay which frankly isn't representitive of the game. It's extremely rare that you interact with anyone on the street (I can only recall one instance), and gunplay is an extremely low priority - the game's relatively easy to complete without ever even firing a gun. Again, the game's still great and I would recommend it to most people - I just wouldn't want people to buy Mirror's Edge believing it's something else.

A relaxing and zen experience

Mirror's Edge is a game about freerunning, set in the first-person perspective. Even today, that combination is unusual, and it was indeed a interesting game when it released. Its strongest points are the gameplay and the visual style. I bought this for Xbox, and finished it in one sitting! It does take 6-7 hours, which may seem short, but it is absolutely worth experiencing. You also unlock the hard difficulty after your first completion, and you can even finish the game without killing anyone, if you're looking for more challenge! The controls for the freerunning are easy to learn, and feel responsive. It just works! The game-world is full of elements to keep your freerunning flow going. You can vault, climb, slide, wall-run and more! The combat is also good. There are some melee-combos you can do, and you can combine your attacks with the freerunning (wallrun to punch, feels good!). You can use guns as well. These work good as well, and the shooting-gameplay is sound (this game is made by the Battlefield-guys). Guns are entirely optional though, and some guns will slow you down. Yes, you can't wallrun with a .50 cal sniper rifle in your hands! The visual style of Mirror's Edge is very appealing. The city is mostly cold white, and the bright reds, blues, greens and yellows add a very nice contrast. Interactive objects in the world usually glow bright red as well, which has become a trope in gaming, but actually doesn't feel out of place here. A beautiful style and a relaxing soundtrack made this a very pleasing experience. It's not very difficult on the default difficulty either. Despite the combat, it's relaxing to play for a few hours. Your first playthrough will be full zen.

I just thought it was really fun.

It's a short game, like maybe 6 hours. The combat can be clunky....but it's fun! I would definitely recommend a controller, it just works better. The controls are pretty tight when you get them down, it becomes second nature very quickly. When you get a head of steam up, and you are flying over and under obstacles, banging through doors, frantically heading for the exit, people shooting at you, it's all very immersive. The graphics look fantastic, really bright, nice details, very interesting visual experience. As other people have stated, the story is nothing to write home about, though it hints at a very interesting world. I think I liked it more than most, but maybe I'm easy. It's definitely not Planescape: Torment storytelling, but that's not what you're here for anyway. I think this is a game where you will be able to tell after about 30 seconds if you are into it or not. It's probably not for everybody, if you are looking for serious puzzles or serious FPS combat this game will let you down. But if you want to just run your ass off, bounce off a wall, grab a fence and GET OFF THAT ROOF, double quick, there is a lot to enjoy here.
