Might and Magic® 6-pack Limited Edition

With out a doubt the best deal on gog.com. Great Games for a great Price. lets hope we see something like this for the other classic RPG franchises Ultima and Wizardry. Thank you gog for these sweet games, there goes my free time.

While the first three M&M are now a bit on the older side, 4&5 is what I consider the best heroic fantasy RPG available to date, with a wonderful story that goes from the bright to the dark side of xeen, giving you a really strong and unkillable avatar... until you finish 4&5 and try the bonus Clouds of Xeen dragon where the first dragon will make you totally regret not being a power leveling adept. MM6, while not as good as its two predecessors would still be worth a full 4 stars on its own, with maybe a half star bonus just for the pleasure of bombing whole cities with meteors. Unfortunately, while it is easy to be a savior, being a bad-ass is very hard, and while I did kill all citizen, I never got under a real bad reputation, which is a real shame.

Thanks to GOG I have again the chance to play a game that defined the RPG genre. M&M series is based on original D&D concept. At the start you choose/get party of heroes each can have different class having set of skills, primary attributes, magic and appearance. After the start you begin to unraveling story unique to each game of serie with plentiful side quests which will help you to level your heroes in order to become more and more powerful. Key part of series is M&M VI - outstanding graphics (in release year), party creation, large country where you can find clues related to Heroes of Might & Magic II and stunning music. This part is 'must play at least once' for all RPG fans. Again thank you GOG for this compilation and New World Computing for creating such fantastic serie.

MM4/5 are an amazing amount of detail, depth, and gameplay for the price. MM6 is pretty huge -- although it is vulnerable to abuse if you know the game too well and want to really burn through it. On the other hand, they're all fun. I still remember playing MM1 twenty years ago, making maps on graph paper. :) Classic games, tons of fun, substantial replay value. The weakest point of MM6 when it came out was lack of support for hardware accelerated video (because, back then, the pallette tricks they were using for different monsters weren't widely-supported enough, and many cards didn't have the memory for the engine). Given that the game ran silky-smooth on a 200MHz i686, though, there's no worry about that now. MM6 lets you choose between a real-time system and a sort of semi-turn-based combat system; the latter has some unusual quirks, but it's still playable, and a huge amount of fun to play. MM7 and MM8 used the same engine, slightly updated, so maybe we'll get lucky and see them some time.

I was introduced to Might and Magic through the Sega Genesis M&M (equivalent to PC M&M2). I also played it on PC and C64 back then. M&M1 and M&M 2 were huge award winning successes that really began to establish the framework of modern day RPGs. It has tons to do and is one of those old-style actually-hard games. In fact, I only finally beat it last year after playing nearly 10 years (played it several times, of course). It's not "good" like today's stuff. But it's just plain ol' fun for me. I doubt it would fit many people's taste. But M&M6 is just simply an amazing game. If you've play Heroes of Might and Magic 2, 3 or 4, then you'll want to check this game out b/c it fills you in on a lot of the story going on in those games. It's a unique story with some good and novel game play. These are nowhere near the best RPGs ever. But they are great fantasy/sci-fi games and instrumental in defining the types of games we have now.
