In the not-too-distant future. America has been torn apart by a savage force known only as the ‘Miasma’.
Meet Elvis, a young man brought to the mining town of Sedentary as a baby. Left by his mother in the care of a robotic older ‘brother’ and given a mysterious glove with which he can control the Miasma.
Join the brothers on a quest across a post-apocalyptic wasteland to find the answers they crave. Answers which may change the course of human history forever.
It's a fun x-com like game, and I like the new difficulty settings.
It's an amazing world with unique and extremely well crafted locations, an interesting history and a great sci-fi setting!
the art is great ,graphics are cool, gameplay is great, i do not give a 5 starts cause of the history, some text lore and the worst thing is the voice actors, most voice actors are great but there are 2-3 that i hate them. i can not play with the mother just so i don't ear her voice. i think they went for diversity instead of quality and that it was what made some people that play the game not recommend it to other people and the game didn't sell.
...the devs lost the plot so many times.
They started so strong with Mutant Year Zero and came to this game.
The best of Miasma Chronicles is the world.
It looks really exciting to go around there, but I wish what I wished for MYZ: Make these worlds fully explorable RPGs, like Wasteland or old school Fallout.
There is no wishing for replaying it, when its done.
I never bothered in respecing the chars or try out many Miasma Powers, because there was not so much to try out, if the game follows just a straight line.
I could summon a healer (OP power) and chain lightning groups.
It was all so damn useful from start to finish.
I encountered so many interesting locations, but sidequests are mostly easy and quickly done.
The quirkyness of MYZ was not here and the humor didnt always work.
On a technical point of view it has so many issues, too.
I can save and load all time, but no Quick Safe and Quick Load option. Why? Feels like devs on the one hand want to keep it in, but on the other make the players life harder.
And if you have a combat system to try around a % number and you dont want reloads until a shot lands, develop a different system or make it a fully playable RPG.
And you need that, because the enemies have extreme range and accuracy. Cover or not, they ht hard and I counted. The whole playthrough enemy missed 5 times. FIVE! Of course I need to reload constantly to get the best result. What kind of system is that?
On top its so buggy and very often things didnt work. "Tackle" was just move, but no tackle.
EMP grenades dont shock robots.
Jades Warcry didnt boost aggro.
The list is endless.
It didnt happen every fight, but the whole game.
Graphical bugs, too.
4 crashes.
How can such a game be in this state?
Or you start an ambush, realise one character is in a bad spot, you quit the ambush and all others get teleported to you, after you plotted it all so carefully. Infuriating.
Compare price to Clair Obscur. Could tell so much more...
Played it for a couple of hours and all I can say it has a basic story, combat is nice and punchy. If you're looking for something like XCOM try it.
Story probably will be a bit lacking, or be very predictable, but its ok.
game mechanics is very similar (next to identical) to Mutant Year Zero - it even copies the same bugs (or are they features?), luckily nothing game crashing. You also stalk a lot, snipe enemies and hoard one-and-only resource available. Even skill tree is very alike. Bearded Ladies are earning themselves a subgenre named after them :)
like in some other industry-standard it offers variety of builds, but You'll somehow always end up as stealth archer (sniper in this case)
game is not too short, not too long - quite well balanced, too - i haven't found an easy way to abuse game mechanics.
plot is fairly well written - all the notes that reveal the history piece by piece, the main hero storyline, the world history - they all nicely come together, with fewer loose ends than in MYZ (not that I don't like open endings).
Final battle is a disappoinment, though.
