Really good game. Turn-based done right

I had a blast with Miasma Chronicles. It's a turn-based squad strategy game with minor RPG elements. Nothing more, nothing else. More suited to PC controls rather than console. Not a AAA title, but I didn't have a problem with in-game graphics. They are good for this type of game. Of course, cinematics are not going to blow your mind away. Gameplay gets a 4.5 /5 for me. One really needs to manage, movement, shooting, special abilities, and inventory. Challenging, but not frustrating. Spent about 27 hours total on this game, got the max level and completed all the side quests. So, the length it's definitely a plus, and the game is not padded. Give this game a shot if you the genre, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The weirdness is strong with this one

I start by saying that 4 stars is a stretch here. But I also think 3 starts is not enough. I bought this game because I really like Mutant: Year Zero from the same developer. I hoped to get something like that and Miasma delivered... almost. Miasma Chronicles has a story just as weird and crazy as Year Zero. It has very similar, all be it updated gameplay. It is bigger and looks better, so I suspect the budget was slightly higher here. I think that characters are a little more fleshed out, but then they are not as charming. There are a few more similarities, Year Zero players will quickly recognize the handiwork. Over all, it has a very similar vibe to their previous game... but not quite. Something is missing, something small, but significant, something that I can't quite figure out. Still, I had a lot of fun with this one. If you like Year Zero I think this game will also be worth your time and money. What if you didn't play Mutant: Year Zero? Well, go and play it :). But also play this one, if you like tactics games and/or weird and crazy stories with weird and crazy characters.

Solid and fun

To me gameplay feels just right for a turn based game. Not too basic but not too complicated either. The characters can be a bit wtf at times but in general are quite good and memorable. The world is BEAUTIFUL, and it feels so alive. Ambient dialogues everywhere, the maps are large but don't feel boring. Definitely recommended

Tactical Story

If you've enjoyed Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, then this game is for you. The great tactical combat with dark-ish ambience and intriguing story returns. The characters are interesting and varied, but I believe the relationships felt very opposite of "show-not-tell", and maybe a bit rushed. (And it's also disappointing being limited to only 3 people per party, so some characters won't even get any use out of them...) There's a lot of environmental storytelling, but sadly you're not able to look at things more closely. There's also some (optional) puzzles. The combat is where the story shines, with its emphasis on positioning, usable items, special powers & character abilities, explosive barrels, and the 4 weapon types (assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, and bouncing discs). The stealth options are very limited, but if approached correctly, you may reduce most enemy numbers before the real combat even starts. But with Unreal Engine being used, expect great drops / variations in performance. Also the lighting felt a bit off to me at moments. All in all a great tactical story game I recommend trying out.

Great upgrade from Mutant Year Zero

I really enjoyed this game. Gameplay-wise it's an upgraded Mutant year zero (MYZ): The combats are working in the same way but the character's upgrades are more intresting and exploration is also more fun thanks to a better readability... you actualy see where you are walking. On the game design part it's also an improvement, for example, they got ride of the stupid xp progression from MYZ, no need to visit 3 time every map anymore. The game provide enough difficulty settings to make enjoyable to every kind of player and avoid frustration. Since the gameplay is classic but solid , the game is still very fun in it's easiest difficulty (story mode). Graphics are very good too and the miasma fx are really cool, there are some nice visual storytelling in the scenery. Alas the rest of the storytelling suffers from many little flaws ( try to count how many time they say "america") , and the main character, Elvis, has absolutly no charisma. What a missfire! Because the rest of the cast is entertaining. Anyway the game is very fun and i was so disapointed by the wasted potential of MYZ that this time i give it a 4.5/5.
