Console controls

Bought the game on Steam. Love tactical combat and the world and story of Miasma Chronicles seemed at least mildly interesting. However, much like Mordheim or similar games, I never really got the chance to evaluate the mechanics because actually playing the game is a complete pain. The first 30 seconds of being dropped into the game I literally thought it had crashed because exactly zero of the expected mouse and keyboard interactions I tried did nothing. Unfortunately it's 100% q console, and controller, game. It's a tactical RPG but you move with WASD, where click-to-move would make perfect sense. The left mouse button does basically nothing, it's all toggle with E and Q and interact with Space. I didn't last beyond the tutorial fight. Similar issues exist with the UI and graphical settings, the latter being limited and lacking any kind of information of performance impact etc. The developers have responded and claim to be working on these issue, among many more, but until those have been resolved I cannot in good faith recommend the game to anyone playing it on PC, with a mouse and keyboard.

One step forward two steps back..

First off, I loved Mutant Year Zero and i'm a big fan of turn-based games, but this game has too many issues. MC has some very nice graphics but has a generic feel to it and i can't stand that "follow the racing line or big yellow arrow to be a winner". Why do some games insist on telling you how to play the game? and showing you where to go, rather than just letting you figure it out. This is more of a puzzle game than turn-based strategy. The story is flat, the dialogue cringey and the price on release was ridiculous. at least they've knocked 40% off now. Go play Mutant Year Zero which is way more fun. What a shame

I liked it but...

It is not bad at all. I had fun exploring the world although the characters really seemed flat. Classic crazy villain though. And well... I got engaged with the people chatting in town rather than the banter of the PCs but it is what it is. Game is difficult no doubt about it. You can lower the difficulty level - don't forget! ;) In a nutshell - not better than MYZ or XCOM but if you like that sort of games go get it.

Dissapointing

I bought the game because I love turn based tactics. Also, this post-apocaliptic world was unique enough. But as I played, it slowly became clear that the only positive site of this game is the world building. Don't get me wrong, that's an important part, but it's just the fundation. We need a good story and characters too. And while the story is almost there, it's kind of weak, and sometimes stupid. And I just can't relate of any of the characters, they are all purely writen idiot a-holes. Except when they need to be the heroes for the story, in that case they quickly saying something heroic, and continue being idiots... And without spoiling it completly, the ending was the most underwhelming thing I ever experienced in a game so far. The other issue is the technical side of the game. Crashing or freezing at the worst times is just normal. Sometimes walls or floors just don't work as you would expect. Grenades or summoned creatures end up on a different floor. Graphic elements flicking so much on the edge of some area, there should be an epilepsy warning. And the controlls pretty annoying most of the times... Also, does someone know why cost the reload action 1AP while I can switch weapons for free, and by switching them they automatically reloading? Whatever, this was not worth its price...

Disappointed

In comparison with other tactical RPGS the game doesn't feel very "tactical" at all. At the beginning I was totally dependant on stealth sniper kills to decimate the amount of enemies before even entering the combat, leaving me with the armored bullet sponges on the field. Diggs felt really useless early game. In contrast chain lightnig miasma ability upgraded with fire mod felt very cheesy, while necessary given the hp and amount of enemies. The story felt kind of blunt so far. The characters seem to lag depth. In dialogs I had to resist skipping because I did not really feel involved. I never had the feeling that I wanted to learn more about the world or what lies behind the next corner.
