Metro 2033 Redux

I have it on ps4... Great game

Even after completing it, only the normal level i might add, i'm certainly going back in to give RANGER level a go. I just need to pluck up the courage to do so...... Now if a game like this can do that to me then it's worth everything spent on it.

In general I have years since I see a good lineal game that you can enjoy, also a game that does not have 80+ hours of gameplay. This is a good lineal game that can be enjoy during some weeks if you, as me, do not have a lot of time to play it. Just some points to cover: 1- You will need resource management, because ammo and filters are not growing in threes. 2- Do not expect ultra 4k graphics 3- Depending on the dificulty, your brain will be needed. 4- There will be parts with suspense, be brave. If you do not have problems with the above, you got yourself an adventure. Hint: Learn to recarge the flashlight and the night vision, I pass more than half of the game in the dark.

I think that Metro 2033 is a very interesting, very lovingly made game and you should definitely play it. The game may turn you off initially because the gunplay and movement is ever so janky and the voice acting, though competent, features a lot of the stereotypical Russian accents which can give you some bad impressions. But stick with it for a while and soon enough you'll warm to Artyom's likable narration as you get sucked into this wonderfully atmospheric trip, pushed forward by Artyom's need to find answers. You'll see some excellent level design and pacing, great lighting and sound and varied gameplay that ranges from shooting to stealth to puzzle solving and even a bit of roleplaying. Not much of it is groundbreaking, but all of it is perfectly accessible, well implemented and easy-going. Which might sound like I'm damning the game with faint praise a bit, and to some extent that's the case (hence 4 stars and not 5). The gameplay doesn't reach the heights that I've seen in some other games. Don't let that dissuade you though, since the creativity in this game is well worth it alone.

Those who liked the atmosphere of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will enormously like Metro 2033. But beware, it is only the atmosphere because the game is very different in its terms of mechanics (it's more a FPS than a typical survival and absolutely not an open world). And those who know and more, have read the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, they will appreciate the result here : very nervous and faithful to his post-apocalyptic novels. So : PROS : * The atmosphere! * Tremendous non-stop action thanks to a very solid storyline * The Redux version offers very good graphics and FX (even in 2016) * Since the beginning, you feel yourself as a small and fragile human being * Very immersive sounds CONS : * Hard, very hard, very very hard... * You follow the track : that's not an open world, so don't hope to explore the sceneries * The controls aren't always very optimal, boring especially when you encounter a bug in the scene * That's a 'die and retry' game, so if you abhor to do again two, three or even ten times the same difficult passage, avoid this game
