Medal of Honor Pacific Assault puts you in the boots of a WWII soldier in the Pacific Theater of Operations. As Marine Private Tommy Conlin, you must survive the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor and then join the Allied crusade to defeat Imperial Japan's bloody conquest of the Pacific. From the attack at Pearl Harbor to the pivotal battle against Japanese Forces at Tarawa Island, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault gives PC gamers a sense of the courage it took to endure and overcome the Japanese threat in WWII and fight for VICTORY in the Pacific.
Historical Backdrops - Experience missions set at historically accurate backdrops including Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, and Tarawa.
Bond With Your Squad - Get to know the Marines who you'll be fighting alongside. Each has a unique personality and backstory. When new recruits arrive, get them experience to increase their proficiency.
More Weapons - Take to the battlefield with historically accurate handguns, machine guns, rifles, shotguns, explosives, and more!
For the most part the game is just really mediocore early 2000's shooter, but then you get one of the most horrondeous vehicle section's ever deviced and after that you have to endure a really shitty and buggy last mission. Too many turret section's too.
Don't buy it.
I made the mistake of thinking that this game would be like the other medal of honor ww2 games of its time like rising sun or the D-Day one. Which was mostly just running around in various environments blasting enemies with an old school submachine gun. Alas, you will never get such simple straight forward mechanics in this game. Instead it will be the enemy blasting you from a distance, behind some foliage where you can't see them, with expert accuracy that never misses and the ability to cycle a bolt action rifle at 3x the speed of your character. Honestly, I never figured out how they wanted you to play this game, I felt no better at it in the end than I did in the beginning. If you go counter strike style, stay standing and try to be fast, the AI will whittle your life down to nothing in no time. Playing more in a crouched position will help with not getting hit as much but it slows down your reticule to the point where you can't check your flanks and the enemy will inevitably bayonet attack you until you're dead. Trying to strike a balance between the two positions didn't offer up any better results for me.
The only positive thing I have to say in this review is I'm grateful to gog for making these older games available. Although maybe it didn't have to be this game. But hey, maybe I missed something here or I'm just the world's worst player at this game, I'm willing to accept either one of those explanations. Nonetheless it's my opinion that there are way better games available from this era.
Pacific Assault, while not as polished as Allied Assault was, is still a great WWII shooter from the golden age of WWII media (early 2000s). It was a time when we were blessed to see the likes of Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and many more media adventures honoring WWII veterans and the sacrifices they made. Pacific Assault is a good one and I highly recommend it. It deserves much more praise than it ever received.
