Magic Carpet Plus™

I know it's amazing that this game used to be considered 'high end' graphically; but it is worth the struggle to aclimate to it's ancient conventions. Flying around on the titular carpet still provides a genuine sense of freedom. One of the earliest game to embrace 'mouse look', it's control scheme was years ahead of the industry.

Well this is my favourite game ever. But where o where is Magic Carpet 3?? I was almost a teenager when this came out and am 42 now!! it would probably run on my phone now. Or my toaster. Come on devs ride the magic ;) And make pots of cash into the bargain.

Magic Carpet is definitely a game of its own, which means it is difficult to compare to anything I 've played. The whole idea of a fantasy flight simulator-strategy- RPG where you can play in a map for the competition of a resource, called mana, and have to fight monsters, other sorcerers and build your own castle and then defend it is without a doubt unique and incredibly enjoyable. However, the title is not without flaws, far from it. On one hand, starting the game is confusing at best and the whole flight part is a whole mess. On the other, you get to learn a wide variety o spells with very different functions and the whole setting (music and design) are enchanting! So, yes! definitely worth buying and playing! just for the feeling of One Thousand and One Nights that the game offers!

Actually borrowed the Magic Carpet 2 disc from a friend and played that. Then I found this in some abandonware site and played it as well. I loved it just as I loved its sequel. I was a student back then so I couldn't afford this and other games such as Diablo2, so I had to pirate it. Now that I'm working and have the money, I thought it's time to give some of my hard earned money to the developers of these awesome games. With GOG, I can finally buy and play these games legitimately! Thanks GOG for providing this service!

I don't wish to tell what others already have, just one add-on to those who are interested. Magic Carpet is also among the very first games which also works in true stereoscopic 3D. Back those days one could only use those red-cyan glasses, but for almost the first of its kind, I was truly impressed. I don't remember whether it would also work with LCD stereoglasses (a.k.a. shutter glasses). Otherwise it is a very challenging game.
