The award-winning, visionary new take on digital comics
Liberated is an action-adventure game that unfolds across the pages of a comic book. Seamlessly merging the art of hand-drawn graphic novels with interactivity and side-scrolling action, it’s a revolutionary combination of video games and comics.
Freedom is a matter of perspective
In this near-future dystopia, the eerily familiar always-online society gives way to complete government control—all in the name of safety. But in the midst of it all, an insurgent group known as “Liberated” rises.
What is Liberated?
Side-scrolling action
Intense adventure brimming with gunfights, stealth, puzzles and platforming action.
Cyberpunk Near-future
Social networks, facial recognition, fake news, citizen credit systems. A familiar world in which technology empowers control over the people.
Order & Revolution
A story of authoritarianism—how it is born in a democracy and consumes it. Liberated men and women rise against the new world order, but at what cost?
Multiple Perspectives
A dramatic story told through unique points of view. Play as individuals locked in a clash of ideals. This is not a simple tale of good versus evil, you must witness what transpires from many points of view to parse the truth.
For all comics fans this is a MUST. Only shame is that it ended after two DLCs (which were too short).
The game-aspect is probably not something that should account too much for the value of this artpiece, but I liked the consequent comic-like aspects of the gun doing the "PANG" when shooting and the environment doing the "CRACKLE" noise bubbles when hit (and so on), so you really feel like creating the comic book action.
The story is noir and dystopian, feels a shame that there's no actual conclusion. Guess I'd pay to see more of the series.
Over all I really enjoyed the game.
Story is relevant to what is going on around us today.
Improvements:
1. While its in comic mode just going from pane to pane while characters are talking, allow the option to go backward just in case you missed something.
2. Create better aesthetics for the puzzles. The concept is neat BUT, even when following what I thought were the rules to complete them (circuit types), it never works, and had to go online to see how, and then when it worked, it couldn't actually work 2-3 other ways to solve.
Other than that, enjoyed it keep up the good work!
Great comic book story, gameplay is a little light but that's probably not what you're playing it for.
Story is eerily similar to what is going on globally right now...almost more of a commentary than a story.
this game is more of a digital graphic novel than a game.
If you love graphic novels, gloomy and inspired artstyle, give it a go.
its narrative is a bit naive and very reminiscent of other things: it's like matrix meets fight club, meets a conspiracy theory enthusiast.
but everything about it's art-style is great, I mean: if you see it as a (midly) interactive digital comic book you could really like this, the style reminds of great artists like Frank Miller and everything is professionally done in its figurative communication, it's also interesting the artistic direction took by the "gamy" side of things, the choice of black-and-white plus occasional crimson blood is cool and it has some real character.
sadly, though, the 3D models and animations aren't that great, controls are sometimes quite messy and the scarce platforming leaves a lot to be desired and won't entertain you that much.
what is "gaming" here is a little poor and the story sometimes it's as if it wanted to be preachy, even if it tries to show you the double sides and hypocrisy of our modern world, showing that violence is omnipresent and threatens to cover the good intentions of everybody, alas, it doesn't offer any really charming character and does a poor job in introducing you to new ones, just a couple get to be known and not so deeply.
overall, if you would like some chill time reading a great multimedial medium for a dark, yet simplistic, story, you can get some enjoyment out of this, just try and savor the artistic side of it.
as for telling a tale well and providing a good, complete game, you might find something that's more of a miss than a hit.
It is avery good and intersting story and the idea and the consept of the gameplay and delivery of the story as comic series spilt into issues is very fascinating!! It has very god voice acting and artstyle!!! I reccomended to anyone tha wnats something different than usual without second thought, especially when it is on sale!!!!!!!
