The award-winning, visionary new take on digital comics
Liberated is an action-adventure game that unfolds across the pages of a comic book. Seamlessly merging the art of hand-drawn graphic novels with interactivity and side-scrolling action, it’s a revolutionary combination of video games and comics.

Freedom is a matter of perspective
In this near-future dystopia, the eerily familiar always-online society gives way to complete government control—all in the name of safety. But in the midst of it all, an insurgent group known as “Liberated” rises.

What is Liberated?

Side-scrolling action
Intense adventure brimming with gunfights, stealth, puzzles and platforming action.

Cyberpunk Near-future
Social networks, facial recognition, fake news, citizen credit systems. A familiar world in which technology empowers control over the people.

Order & Revolution
A story of authoritarianism—how it is born in a democracy and consumes it. Liberated men and women rise against the new world order, but at what cost?

Multiple Perspectives
A dramatic story told through unique points of view. Play as individuals locked in a clash of ideals. This is not a simple tale of good versus evil, you must witness what transpires from many points of view to parse the truth.

I enjoyed it, but I can't recommend it

The premise of Liberated is great and I really want to love that game. However, the clunky controls, some frustrating scenes and save points and the weird level design makes it hard to recommend. The best part of the game certainly is the story. It revolves around a totalitarian state and how some people try to start a revolution against it. The great comic-styled cut scenes feel a lot like "V for Vendetta". I must admit that I didn't see some plot twists coming and I enjoyed the story. It took me about 4h to finish the game and another 30mins for the DLCs. Moreover, I really liked the art style and the comic atmosphere. Most of the time, the gameplay elements blend well into the comic frames. However, sometimes the animated scenes felt a bit off (especially in Issue/chapter 3) but that might just be my personal taste. The gameplay is the weakest spot of the game. I was expecting some kind of stealth game like "Mark of the Ninja". However, you should expect an action game more similar to "Deadlight". That is not a bad thing, and I did enjoy the gunplay after I got used to it. But do not buy this game if you want to play a stealth game. The stealth mechanic is inherently flawed and no fun at all. Shooting enemies in the head, in turn, is very satisfactory in a weird way. Lastly, the level design, which aims to be a bit like Limbo. And in many ways it succeeds. Often times the backgrounds are gorgeous and very fitting. Nevertheless, some design decisions simply didn't make sense, like when you climb from the basement to the first floor, which is completely flooded. Then you climb around and flood it a bit more until you finally reach a door that lets you go back down to a perfectly dry basement. For some reasons it really put me off to see such an inconsistent building design. All in all, you only play this for the story and the art. If you like the premise and the style and don't mind the gameplay, give it a try. Everyone else better waits for a sale.

A just boring game with QTE

No key mapping possibility, impossible to go back, not very exciting rail shoot and particularly annoying QTE. The black and white comics style is nice but nothing carries this graphic paw between the bad gameplay and a dusty scenario.

Everything you've seen before but bland.

Repetitive, boring, run right, shoot. Long winded comic-book panelling that contractdicts itself as a narrative structure. It does take it's cues from classic games, and Tv shows but it's nothing but a poor empty simultion of them. Really underwhelming.

Some cool points, some bad points.

Cool aesthetic, cool story/concept. FRUSTRATING controls, aiming is very finicky (at least on a controller) and QTE prompts pop up and surprise you. Feels a little unfair, but maybe I'm just salty. I put less than 3 hours into this game and encountered two different game-stopping, progression-blocking bugs. Very annoying, might get a refund.

Side-scrolling comic book game

My biggest complaint's probably gotta be the fact that the game'll go into 3D at certain sections, as the game's at its best during its 2D sections (and it can even be a bit jarring to swap from style to style) The shooting and stealth sections can get boring and repetitive, especially with the amount of QTE's they cram in there, but the tension brewing from the narrative is palpable. The characters at times could be hard to tell apart from one another though, due to lighting and for most a lack of unique designs and often didn't have much time spent developing them much further past what their mission was in the overall plot, which makes it hard to care when the game tries to tell you it's a tragedy that a certain character dies. The artstyle and direction, thematically, is what sells this game and on that I'm mostly sold but the game's far from perfect and definitely could have improved in certain areas (like maybe letting me turn off controller vibrate) Would recommend if it was a "pick your own adventure" sorta comic, you're big on comics, art and story telling or if you're into side scrolling adventure
