Description
The land of Kyrandia is disappearing piece by piece and you are the offbeat, young mystic who must voyage to the center of the world to break the curse and save it. Your surreal journey will twist even the sharpest of minds. Traveling through a vast, weirdly beautiful terrain, you must concoct potions, cast spells and lure the help of some very bizarre inhabitants to uncover the secrets that doom Kyrandia.

Crafty Kyrandian veterans from the first Fables & Fiends adventure, The Legend of Kyrandia, may recognize their favorite land of giant frogs, talking trees and really strange berries. But this isn't just the same old Kyrandia! Challenging puzzles, new characters, and lots of self-conscious wisecracks from our heroine make Hand of Fate more challenging than it's predecessor.
  • Return to the whimsical land of Kyrandia where giant frogs, talking trees, and other equally strange denizens make their home!
  • The State of Mind System enables you and over 50 characters to change your mind, mood and mayhem based on preceding events.
  • Solve puzzles, encounter side-quests! Kyrandia is a much bigger world than before, yes, even while disappearing for no apparent reason!

Fun, engaging, even for non-english kids

Looking for games that have female characters, to offsett the enormous male focus that kids grow up with. Huge bonus for this game not making an issue of the female choice. As is, there really isn't any reason for it to be female or male, other than too many male leads in the world of fiction already ;) Clickable, not needing to read or understand English is a huge bonus. For us adults, it's a memory come to life, and worth it. How this went down with the youngsters here: Like the best of parent-memory-lane trips! Like this: "aaargh, not one of those oldey things AGAIN! .... It is kinda fun though... Maybe... NO I DON'T WANT TO QUIT PLAYING AND GO TO BED YET!". so a full score here. Also, in this modern world of never-ending games, a game that has an end to find and reach is a wonderful change of pace.

Ugh, The Feels!

I remember playing this game when I was just learning how to use a computer around 6 - 7. I found it again just by pure luck, and what a sight to behold. It is just as funny as I remember it and I had no idea it was part of a grander story. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a challenge, story, and point-click adventures. Great for all ages!

Another Grand Adventure

I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, but that was a pretty tall order to begin with; it's still quite a worthy follow-up. This time, you play as Zanthia, and every time you enter a new area, she changes her outfit, sometimes with good reason, and sometimes just because; either way, it's a nice touch, even if she has occasionally questionable fashion sense. It took me a little time to warm up to her, but by the end, I enjoyed her character. The jokes come a lot more often than in the first game, but that's not quite a point in its favor; the humor wasn't bad, but could've used a little restraint. The music was good, but not quite as good as in its predecessor. Where the game shines most is in its visuals and its gameplay. The places you visit are beautiful, my personal favorite being the fourth area with its flowing lava, it jagged shards of emerald, and its dark, crystalline dinosaurs. The puzzles are pretty good, too; you have a spellbook that teaches you how to mix potions, a system greatly expanded from the first game. Though unfortunately, there are a few potions that you will never use, it is still fun to experiment with making new things. The hints are a little cryptic, too, so you really have to think outside the box for some of the ingredients, but it doesn't go into moon logic territory too often.

My Favorite Kyrandia Game!

Out of the Kyrandia trilogy, this is my favorite game! As the story goes, the land of Kyrandia is slowly disappearing piece by piece! In order to save it, a plan was formed to go to the center of the earth to get an anchor stone which will save the land - and Zanthia, the youngest of the four royal mystics is chosen to embark on this journey! The devs learned from the first game what worked and what didn't. Story was very easy to follow and charming with gentle humor. The ingredients for the spells were easy to find and not tedious as it was in the first game. NO MAZES! Artstyle to me is still great. For low pixel art, this is my favorite style. I wish more devs adopted it if they wanted low pixel graphics. Voice acting is okay - I think it can be better, but didn't spoil the experience for me. There is music for many of the different screens that add to the feel of each place. The music from this game is actually my favorite set of midi music ever. I have software that changes the instruments and makes it more jazzy (not in the game though, just the midi versions of these) and they're great to listen to when I'm doing some desk work. Zanthia, the main character, herself is charming and is such a girl! She changes to an appropriate but fashionable outfit for every new region she arrives at, lol! Overall, this was the Kyrandia game I played the most since it's so enjoyable, so I was super happy to find this on GOG and be able to play it again!

The Fair Maiden!

The Kyrandia series was a wonderful series. Though it clearly was an attempt at Westwood to capture the incredible success of Sierra; these games managed to stand their on their own for their unique ways they did puzzles slightly different than what you saw in Sierra games. This one, I felt like was Westwood's move to put a heroine in the lead role, similar to what we saw in King's Quest IV. But the Westwood Kyrandia games were very, very different in their humor and how they did puzzles. The game definitely stands on it's own (who else has a giant glove following them around as the literal HAND OF FATE?) I absolutely loved the Kyrandia games when they first came out; and still enjoy them now!
