Legend of Grimrock 2

I have only tinkered around with dungeon crawlers like the Grimrock Series in the past. The first Legend of Grimrock was my first full on dive into the genre and I loved every minute of it. Legend of Grimrock 2 is a great sequel improves the game in the right places. Disclosure: I'm a game hopper. I move very quickly from game to game to experience new types of gameplay. Once I get a feel for the gameplay I will often move on. So when I play a game all the way through to its completion I know I've found something good. If you enjoy games like Might and Magic 1-6, Grimrock 1, or the more recent Might and Magic X you will most likely enjoy this game a lot. If I was going to say something negative about the game it might be some of the puzzles. Many puzzles and secrets give you enough hints but some are rather obscure (internet to the rescue). However, if you play games to figure out puzzles you may enjoy this title as well. Worth every penny. Good job Almost Human. =)

A very satisfying dungeon crawler...exciting and dangerous monsters, clean playability, great artwork, solvable but still challenging puzzles, enjoyable musical score and background ambience... I am old school, back from the days of Temple of Apshai and Wizardry I for the Apple 2+ and this game was in the same tradition, yet light years beyond. Bravo to this team for putting together such a terrific game! Will definitely buy #3!

With its gimmicky fight system it and exploration its a very fun game. Feels like a Stephen Jackson and Ian Livingstone book from the early 90's.

I liked the first game, completing it two times. I generally liked this one as well. It has good puzzles, almost all of them can be solved by yourself. However, this means that you have to exhaustively scan every square of the game grid, possibly multiple times, to find the secrets. And this makes the gameplay really tedious. When you enter a new area, the first thing you do is circle it while staring at the walls in search of hidden buttons. Inventory management is another aspect - you are very much limited on the weight you can carry, but you should not throw anything away and carefully store everything in a place you can return to (such as the Hub). The fighting is difficult with rather awkward controls, especially when you need to juggle movement, drawing magic runes, and access inventory, all almost in real time keeping track of monster movements and dodging their attacks. Because of this complexity I never even used special attacks as it was just not feasible to do while dancing around the enemies. Cheesing and kiting is a must, and you can do that successfully with a few enemies. Unfortunately, the boss fight with the dragon on the roof is too difficult for this tactic as hordes of powerful enemies are spawned around you and they have long distance attacks and easily box you in, wiping your party in a few seconds. I was enjoying the game up to that point. After a few tries, barely scratching the boss's healthbar, I decided not to waste my time any longer and deleted the game without finishing it.

A modern version of the old style dungeon crawl. Primary interaction is via keyboard controls, which you may or may not like. There are a number of dexterity and reflex type encounters, so you might prefer to play on Easy mode unless you're masochistic. Graphics are fairly good, although many dungeon walls get repeated over and over. Not much of a story though, just enough to provide a framework for the crawling. Play is quite linear however so you can't go astray. No money and shopping options - items are seeded along the way for you to pick up and equip. Need to keep your adventurer's fed which is a nuisance, but food (primarily monster remains) is easy to acquire.
