I am a bit disappointed

While I was looking forward to play this game - I dig Lovecraftian themes, cosmic horror etc. - when I finally launched it, there was a big "meh" to it. The first episode was the most atmospheric, but quickly made me realize that apart of the setting, there is not much. I wasn't neither scared nor intrigued, the plot promised a lot for me but at the end of the season one, I am still a bit unsure about what was it actually about. No puzzle took longer than 5 minutes to figure out, most of them are very obvious, the rest requires a minor thought to resolve them. I wrote a lot of bad things, but: the graphics are very good, of course it's pixelated, but it's a top-notch pixel art. The music is gorgeous and adds to the mood. Characters are quite well-written and not cliche, that's a good thing - the story, while it did not captivate me, could be a lot worse. Overall, I suggest to pick the The Last Door if you want only to focus on a story and get immersed in good graphics and music. If you want a great point-and-click game, with intriguing puzzles, dialogue lines, then you might want to look elsewhere.

Cool game,but......

* If you like it, it is recommended to buy both games together at once. First of all, this game has very few horror elements, it's a point-and-click puzzle game to be exact, and most of the scares are the sudden appearance of images and sound effects. That doesn't mean it's bad, though, as the large pixelated style and soundtrack are very impressive, and the plot ex udes a good "secret society" atmosphere of mystery. The one thing that was a little hard to understand was that the puzzles were a little hard to understand at times, so I had to go through the strategy guide a couple of times. (It's a lot easier than the old days of puzzle games!) Cons that aren't really cons: Still feels slightly overpriced for the discounted state, somewhat apologizing for the length of the process and amount of content.

Relaxing and dark

The story, the music, and the atmosphere are 5/5. There aren't many puzzles, and the item combinations are sometimes a bit strange, so it's not a great challenge: best played on a cozy night as a way to relax than as a hardcore investigation game.

Atmospheric

Great atmosphere and storytelling, but the genre is just not for me. I do not enjoy being on the rails of someone else's logic, or lack thereof.

Surprisingly frustrating

The landscape scenes in the trailer were gorgeous, and made me buy this game. But the very low res pixel graphics in game makes me struggle to find object and understand what they are. The first chapter felt very slow and empty, and some of the tasks/puzzles seemed illogical to me. Chapter 2 was an improvement story wise, as there are npcs to interact with that made the world more interesting. However, I still find the puzzles a bit illogical, and also am unable to find the right items to complete the tasks I have identified must be done. Thus I end up walking back and forth and pixel hunting for new interactable objects that I may have overlooked, which gets tedious over time. But maybe in the end that is what will send me "to the brink of madness" as advertised ;)
