Morbidly enchanting

It looked interesting so without any fanfare or pre-research at such a cheap price I dove in, I was so very pleasantly surprised. First off the low rez pixel art style made things a little hard but it did well not to distract from the story. The Edgar Allen Poe references made my chest swell a fair bit. The fall of the House of Usher, The Black cat, The Cask of Amontillado,The Masque of the Red Death,The Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Premature Burial being what I have spotted so far. the Episodic nature of it short and sweet an hour play through to the first episode makes it almost like a bedtime reading game. I haven't been this morbidly charmed by a game since Cinders. Definitely recommend to all Gothic horror and investigation style fans!

Would be a great game if...

...if it was either freeware or if it was actually released completely, and had a bit more content. I enjoyed the atmosphere and there were a few good scares, but gameplay-wise it was really simple and bland. A 2010s point and click adventure game completely devoid of originality in puzzles. I'm not asking for something revolutionary but at least one memorable puzzle, one new thing that sticks would be nice. I initially dropped the game after chapter 3, 5 years ago, and I barely remembered anything. Now I blazed through chapter 4 in about 30 minutes. If I compare it with other horror point and click games that I bought at the same time on GoG (i.e. Sanitarium for the exact same price, or Gabriel Knight 1 even cheaper), it can't compete. The closest comparison that I can draw is to the Chzo Mythos (5DAS/7DAS/Trilby's Notes/6DAS). A little more professional writing here, obviously, but about the same content gameplay wise, and honestly, worse visuals. And Chzo Mythos is a freeware adventure game series made in AGS. And finally, the ending of chapter 4 did not leave me with the desire to know or see more. Even if you're a fan of point and click horror games, I can't recommend this one at full price. Even with an 80% discount it would be a "maybe, if you played all the other good ones".

This is so over-hyped...

First off, the story is... kind of intersting, I supose, not very original if you are a fan of horror games/movies- this will not shock you or offer anything new to the genre but it will kill an afternon without requiring too much brain power. The gameplay is VERY simple. There was one actual 'pussle' in the entire series and that came at the end, and even then it was very basic. The pixel-art should have been more like Resonance or like other similar games- being so simple, you couldn't make out the scenes so any uncomfortableness the devs wanted you to feel fell flat, and just got boring and unimaginative. Sometimes the music is nice.
