It's a pretty good game that indeed reminds you of those classic Lovecraft stories. However, it's simply a bit too much retro...They simply overdo it. It may be an interesting idea to use such extreme pixel graphics but it ruins much of the otherwise creepy and gloomy atmosphere. The story is excellent and original, however.
Very interesting story with a horror-esque theme, gave some Lovecraftian vibes. The point and click is quite easy to figure out, and the game looks really good even though it's low-pixel so to speak. The game is quite short (four episodes which takes about 2-3 hours to complete all together) but still holds up.
Honestly, I've never was a point&click games fan, but since I started to play this I had the need to continue the story as much as the protagonist himself, and that feel was an incredible experience. And constantly atmosphere of being around the horror but can't really see it is amazing.
Of course I recommend this game, maybe a little bit short for me (due to my "voracity" to play it), but totally worth it.
I was sceptical about the lo-fi graphics, but in the end they weren't much of an issue. The great soundtrack helps a lot in building a menacing atmosphere without needing much visual detail. An interesting side-effect of the lo-fi graphics is that the game can be comfortably played with a controller from a distance, without having to squint your eyes. I did enjoy that.
My biggest gripes with the game were that:
(a) The puzzles are simple. If you are not a newcomer to the genre and you pay a minimum attention to the text, you should have zero issues finishing the game,
(b) The game ends rather abruptly and provides no closure. You need to purchase Season 2 to see the end of the story.
I've owned it for a few months but the graphics kept me from picking this up. When finally starting it turned out the graphics weren't a problem at all. The atmosphere is great and I think that the low res graphics leaves more to the imagination. At some point I found myself glad that the graphics were as simple as they are. Just wanted to say that first as I guess a lot of people don't pick this up because of the graphics.
Except for that I just want to say that the games are the best Lovecraftian media I've found, except for the written texts and the game Darkwood. If you are a fan you'll probably enjoy the game. It's its own thing but heavily inspired by Lovecraft.
Great gameplay too.
