If you're gonna make people pay full price for an old game like this, at least add a New Game Plus mode or a extra content after beating the game instead of transporting the player back to Amalur before the end (reason why I will never play Cyberpunk 2077 for that main reason unless that's changed which I doubt).
I bought this through Origin years ago.
One of the best RPGs! Very under-appreciated. I think maybe it came out at about the same time as a bunch of big name games. The lack of notice was a big factor in 38 Studios going bankrupt and the game being owned by the state of Rhode Island.
Anyway, the reason you may have never heard of this isn't because it wasn't good at release - it was just drowned out by other titles and the noise about the bankruptcy.
The noted author, R.A. Salvatore (Forgotten Realms and Drizzt Do'Urden author) created the lore and background story. The game includes an unusual ranged weapon that's a lot of fun - the Chakram, which IIRC was sort of a magical cross between a boomerang and a really huge Shuriken.
So, get this game! But the price seems a bit high, so maybe wait or get it elsewhere at 1/5 the price. Those lower prices might not include the upcoming expansion though.
I remember voting for this game to come on GoG, thinking: "It'll never happen, but I'll hit that upvote anyways.." To say that i'm shocked would be understatement, since the dev company went under i thought that's it like many other great games this one has had it's day. To see it here today on GoG truly warms my heart. I played the game long time ago and to all of you who think the price is a bit much, trust me - it's worth every penny. It was and still is one of my top 3 games of all times and if you're wondering whether you should get it or not, take a leap of faith, trust me you will not regret it. For people at GoG, you guys are bloody amazing!
Glad to see this gem resurfacing in 2020 on GoG!
To those confused about pricing? It's very simple, you may have already owned the game via Steam, so THQ just gave you a fantastic price on an upgrade. The game has never been released on GoG, so there is no upgrade option.
Why buy drm free? well, maybe you shouldn't. Drm riddled games typically are cheaper.
As to why would someone who owns the original purchase this remaster? Simple really, brand new DLC is coming that will probably only work with the remaster. Also, it shows THQ that interest remains in the franchise.
If you're still on the fence, don't buy it?
I really wanted to like this game. On paper it has a LOT going for it but once you start to play it for a while, something starts to become rather familiar. It feels like an MMO ... the combat, the quests, the lands, ... it's all rather generic and typical MMO fare. It got so bad that, back in the day, I googled the development of this game and ... surprise surprise, this WAS originally supposed to be an MMO. Sadly, this means it has all the trappings of an MMO without the fun of enjoying it with friends: too much repetitive grindy combat, a lack of a quality story, forgettable NPCs, ... . It's still a decent RPG, especially today when there's a massive shortage of good fantasy RPGs, but don't let that change the fact that this game is far from a proper single player RPG.
