Best KR so far, won't be done until Feb.

This is the third Kingdom Rush game and the best of the series so far in terms of gameplay. It's one of the best if not THE best in the tower defense genre because it keeps all the action in a single screen while giving the player plenty to do (casting spells, ordering heroes) when saving up for new towers/upgrades. KR:O features the best balanced towers in the series, no overpowered teslas to be found. The premise of KR:O is basically a goofball take on the Silmarillion, taking place at a time when elves ruled the world and the big bad of the series was ostensibly on the side of the good guys. The major change in KR:O is your choice of hero adds a third spell that can be upgraded with the hero's earned XP in addition to their active and passive skills. Heroes still have persistent XP between levels like in Frontiers. And a huge change is heroes can be used in challenge maps now. BUT AN IMPORTANT NOTE! While the $15 price tag includes all the DLC, not all of it has been implemented for the PC just yet. As of October 19th, the PC port has 15 levels (with 3 difficulty levels each) and 9 heroes. The developer plans rolling out monthly updates until all the DLC are implemented in the last week of February 2019. Recommended, but know that it's gonna be incomplete for a while.

Gameplay: 9/10 Story: 8/10 Sound: 7/10 Graphics: 9/10 Final Rating: 8.25 👍 Pros: 👍 Challenging, but not impossible Excellent Gameplay Good Story 👎 Cons: 👎 Paths randomly appear on some levels Sound occasionally overlaps Overview Kingdom Rush: Origins is the prequel to the popular tower defense game Kingdom Rush. It is a prequel in story, but it isn’t a step back in gameplay. The excellent gameplay is still in this title as well as the heroes and upgrades. The graphics are excellent as usual and are in full HD. The sound occasionally overlaps itself, which is annoying but isn’t a huge detriment. I do wish that there was more sound variety as it can get repetitive. The story is presented in both a small blurb before a level and a comic page that occurs after completing a set of levels.

    Hard to recommend

Let me just say that I've always loved Kingdom Rush. I played the first game when it was free on the developer's site and even donated to them via Paypal. I bought the full release of the first and second games. I absolutely adored the first one, and the second was also very cool. But this one, not so much. Partly the problem is my aesthetic preference. I loved the simple but effective art style of the first game. It was all woodlands, snowy tundras and hellish landscapes. There were bandits and knights and orcs and all the usual things. I just felt so comforted even looking at that game. The music and sound effects were also exceptional. The heroes were also awesome. There were one or two really tiny balance issues (e.g the Tesla upgrade for the artillery tower was way overpowered and they never fixed that). The second game slightly strayed away from that art style that I loved, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I still liked the heroes. I liked most of the new towers, the new heroes, and there were some positive balance changes. And finally we come to Origins. Ironhide have taken the game in a direction that I'm not keen on, and I feel like they've jumped the shark a bit. I sympathise with the fact that people would complain if they just kept making the same game. But now we have a really ramped up art style, it's not to my taste and it's often difficult to make out what's going on. There are way too many mechanics, too many things happening and too many things to juggle. Stages are confusing and therefore less satisfying. I personally don't like the new style, the new world, new heroes. I don't like the music, the sound effects, really anything. The only reason why I've even given it 3 stars is because fundamentally it's still Kingdom Rush underneath and that's a great game. But whenever I play the original, I feel so at peace, it's like coming home. I really hope that Ironhide will give us more of that original Kingdom Rush feeling again.
