Weakest of the series, but still good

Compared to the original and Frontiers, this one feels shorter and less satisfying overall. Most abilities are overpriced relative to their effect, so the best strategy is usually just to buy another tower. This is compounded by the fact that there are multiple enemy types that can bypass your barracks, so you want your power spread out. The stages seem a lot shorter than the previous games (especially the heroic and iron challenges), so that you will rarely earn enough money to make use of special abilities anyway. Heroes in Origins are more powerful than in the previous games. Each hero has a unique ability, giving you a third cooldown in addition to the rain of fire and reinforcements. As a result there is more emphasis on timely use of powers and careful hero use, and tower choice seems less important. On the hardest difficulty, some stages appear to be impossible without using the right hero. Overall this one just feels a little less inspired than the other two, with slightly less consistent difficulty and tower balance, and shorter levels. It's still worth the money if you've already played the other two and want more.

Same Old Kingdom Rush

Kingdom Rush: Origins is exactly what you expect from a Kingdom Rush game and nothing more: challenging TD gameplay with a charming look, heroes for support, and a few goofy (but not obnoxious) easter eggs hidden throughout the game. Looks like you'll get between 5-15 hours of gameplay out of it, depending on how much you suck (so, 15 for me). There are no new mechanics besides heroes coming with their own on-demand powers for you to use alongside lightning bolts and summonable troops. Otherwise, you're dealing with the same four basic towers (each with a new look and new final forms, of course) and the same basic system of earnings stars to upgrade your towers. I confess I was a little disappointed by the lack of innovation, but I'm also glad they stuck with what worked and changed just enough to where I can cleary telling I'm playing a brand new entry in the series. When you're the gold standard in tower defense, you don't need to change much.

pretty good, short, but no achievements?

I'm addicted to TDs. These guys made the first kingdom rush as a flash game years ago, and its going strong. This is as good as the previous ones, but easier than frontiers. I have yet to try vengeance though. This iteration has some frustrating parts like enemies suddenly carving out new paths half way through and the best thing to do at that point is to just reset and build in anticipation of it. This time the towers generally all have more projectiles or faster rat of fire. The heroes are more fun because they all now have an active ability you can use with them too. Many maps also have interactable parts that will help you and should be used to your advantage. My favorite was the fire breathing hypogrifs you can activate on one map. One thing I do wish they would do is change up their formula for one game to not be so centered around barracks towers. Slows, stuns, and other abilities could be more impactful. The strategy in this one is pretty much to make a bottleneck, and upgrade the magic and arrow towers and get their insta death abilites upgraded. Since there are many high HP, high defense enemies, this is the best path. However many tactics work, and I have used every tower. One issue I still have is that in game you can get achievements but GoG doesn't have them, what gives?

a solid entry into the series

I don't need to write a huge review over this game. As mobile games go, it's solid and not preditory. As a mobile game ported to PC, it's a solid port. As a game in general, it's a really good tower defense game with lots of enjoyment and replayabilit.

Nice to play first time, nice to try it again in couple years. While promotian artwork sometimes is failing, ingame visual is great.
