Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

IMO the best RPG

This game has consumed me. I haven't played an RPG this good in twenty years. For a first game from this company shows they may really put out some winners. I can't get over how well the terrain is done, howw well the horse riding is and how the combat is. BRAVO!

Good first outing; Improve QA for Sequel

I had a good time with KCD. I started playing at release but decided to wait a bit longer to see if bugs can be ironed out, which they seem to be at review time. I didn't have any major issues at launch, nothing game breaking anyway, but the size of the game outpaced the QA team. I don't hold it against Warhorse Studios, being their first release and quite ambitious, but I hope that they streamline the development pipeline so they can catch more bugs faster and earlier for the sequel. There was one quest that became bugged due to me sequence breaking a related quest by accident, so be wary. The story is predictable but well told. I didn't have many issues with how it played out, except for the conclusion ending on a cliffhanger. I think the final few scenes would've been served better as the start to the next game. The music is corny in parts but very well written. The graphics are good but I think the engine is demanding a little more than it gives out, if that makes sense. Cryengine for this game is very unoptimized, and I experienced some frame drops and stuttering in larger towns. There's also distracting clipping on some pieces of clothing and hair that I hope mods can fix. The combat is frustrating at first, but as you go on you will get used to the combat rose. The combo system was not well implemented, as I almost never found a use for one beyond one or two I could remember. I got good use out of most of the skills but I found the game can go on so long that the build I picked at the start for Henry felt irrelevant by the end. The game can get pretty unbalanced without trying too hard. Overall, I think this game is worth your time if you're into historical fiction. Warhorse has delivered a high-quality product, but I obviously have set my expectations higher, so I hope issues I have this go around can be ironed out in the sequel.

Outstanding Middle Age Open World RPG

The fact that this is the debut title from czech developer Warhorse Studios is very surprising. After extensive bugfixes Kingdom Come Deliverance cements itself as one of the best open world rpgs available. It's fairly well written, offers quite a bit of freedom and the world it lets you explore is very open and beautiful. There are many things to discover and exploration feels meaningful. Combat takes a bit of practice but is engaging and challenging and does not fall for the usual trap of "bullet-spongy" enemies like so many other games in it's genre. The game is set in middle age Bohemia and as a result does not feature any kind of fantasy elements. Even if you think that a lack of magic and monsters might be a deal breaker for you, I would recommend to give it a try anyways. Despite some shortcomings, especially in the endgame stages, I found KCD to be an outstanding title among RPGs. It reminded me a lot of Gothic 1&2, which I would consider high praise. I am very much looking forward to whatever Warhorse Studios will do next.

Fantastic Medieval Escape

This is without a doubt my favourite RPG that I've had the pleasure to play. Kingdom Come has the most immersive game world that I've ever experienced, and it's not down to the potato graphics that I achieved using less than the recommended hardware (RX 570 4GB). That's not to say that every aspect of the game is consistently flawless, but the overall experience is greater than the sum of its parts. I probably ended up putting well more than 100 hours into it and enjoyed every second of it. The game is well worth even full release price, especially if you love the medieval setting.

Runs on Linux (Ubuntu 20.04.3)

I like the game, it's a truly immersive experience. Just wanted to add that even the Windows-version from GOG runs with PlayOnLinux and DXVK. Guides can easily be found on the net. Have fun!
