Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

Bugs! Bugs everwhere...

Such a good game. Amazing experience if it wasn't for some really frustrating bugs. Also the npc animations when they walk... just walk... They look like they just found out that they got cancer and 2 days to live (no arm musces whatsoever) Looks rather funny. Still, this is kind of a game that I live for. Love being there. Just wish I could fast forward the time to a final patch. Also... I find it little strange that Germans get to have their own voiceover. Germans of all people. Wow... Not even the Chechs got one or Poles or Slovaks which should definitely have their own voiceover being in the same area and with all the history they got. It's a shame. But I'm sure dev's got their reasons.

Oblivion Without Elves

Great game with many flaws. The combat is essentially Mount and Blade on hard mode with a stamina bar. It's visceral and exciting the whole game; which ended up being around 80 hours for me. The skill system is exactly like Oblivion, only instead of magic, there are era-appropriate skills like horseriding. The story is middling. Some people really like it, and honestly, it is very cinematic. Not in a marketing buzzword way either: the cutscenes have tight framing, use the rule of thirds frequently, and had eye-catching mise en scene a few times too. It's a shame then that the writing prides itself on political intrigue and villains that aren't even developed. Tack on a plot twist from a very famous blockbuster trilogy and by the end you'll be let down. By the way, nothing after Skalitz has any consequence on the story. You could watch the ending cutscene and you would miss nothing in the main plot. Then you have the cherrypicked historical accuracy. The story gives Henry more upward mobility than retail workers in 21st century America. Nevermind the piles and piles of wealth he single-handedly got in a matter of WEEKS. The outfits are very good, especially compared to other video games, but they're far from perfect. The combat is fun, but if you think people circle-strafed until they could pull off a wombo-combo perfect parry, you should read a combat manual. Peasants can hack away at you with dinky shortswords while you're wearing full plate. Yeah, no. That didn't happen. Last, and worst of all, the save system is just plain bad. It's not immersive, it's not difficult it just a waste of time. I had 10-20 save potions the whole game and at least 10 hours of my playtime was doing shit over. Why? Because I always wanted to save them for a tough fight -- one that never came. Mod it out. It's worthless. The bugs were bad, but only one or two were serious. Most were graphical. If you have a low tolerance for bugs, be warned: they're everywhere.

Very immersive world, Terrible combat

From the moment I started playing I was into it. The world sucks you in immediatly and you quickly learn that you're no hero that can dispatch foes with ease and you actually have to TRAIN and work at combat and archery or stealing or whatever you want to survive in the world. The immersion is great and you feel you're living the life of Henry and you can go do whatever you want once the "tutorial" is over. It's very fun. I personally learned some thieving skills and went to towns and robbed stores and rich peoples houses, pick-pocketed travelers and townsfolk, did a bit of hunting and sold the skins and meats to taverns. Whatever you fancy go and do. I pretty much ignored the main quest for most of my time and I found that it's very easy to become pretty overleveled when do you decide to go back to the main quest after all the other stuff you get into to. The main issue I have with the game is actually the combat. For starters the lock-on mechanic is just awful and feels very restrictive in anything other than a 1v1 duel, which don't happen often. This is made worse by the fact that the Ai, regardless of who they are, are all master combatants and will perfectly block and dodge and "master strike"(a mechanic that kills the flow of combat, imo)all of your swings no matter if you attack from opposite directions of their defense. This can be done by every single enemy I've ever fought be it a well-trained knight who makes a living dueling people, or some random thug in cloth armor wielding a axe meant for cutting wood. It's hard to feel like a accomplished swordsman when every peasant and their elderly grandma fights with the tenacity and skill of a warlord. Aside from the combat and how unoptimized it feels, everything else is pretty good. Didn't run into any game breaking bugs though the bugs are there, and some bigger towns like Sasau have some terrible FPS drops but overall the game ran good for me, and I'm on a older PC. Would recommend getting on sale.

A fine if buggy game

Good game. Decent variety of quest (though hunting quests can get tedious) and overall satisfying to play. Combat can be infuriating though ease of combat is largely dependent on player ability and realism (you will lose if you try to fight more than two people at a time). The bugs are a disappointment. I've encountered nothing gamebreaking as of yet, they're really just a nuisance i.e. horse won't stop running, fixed by loading a save (best accomplished by quitting and reloading).

amazing game with lots of bugs

this is a middle ages simulator. fights are almost like what you would get if you did this in real life probably. the game tries it's best to emulate what it would be like if you were actually there. story wise this is just so so. i love hans' character how he grows and henry as well. but ther eare tact on things towards the end i didn't agree with in the story. i can't explain for it would spoil it. story will continue on to deliverance 2. least i hope it will cause even though it was a buggy mess i enjoyed the hell out of the game. gameplay is where this game shines. the fighting is AMAZING. least, one v one... when it's multiple enemies you better pay attention and keep them on one side or you'll die pretty quick. learn combos and make sure you talk to bernard or your fighting skills will suck majority of game. bugs - this game is just buggy. your clothes will always be clipping constantly, that part is annoying but tolerable. horses that pyramid on top of eachother like cheerleaders was also tolerable. but when you have game breaking bugs for storyline events... thats annoying as hell. The monastery section of the game when you have to go in it and find someone. there is no direction on how to accomplish the goal correctly so i said screw it and just finished it the wrong way so i could continue past the buggy mess... all in all i'm just dropping points for it being buggy. the game itself is just really really fun. pick it up and play it just know you WILL deal with bugs no matter what version you play. i played on 1.7.1
