Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

One of my favourites

This game is not for everyone. If you want to be "the hero in shining armour" and be "the guy", this is not game for you. You are henry, a normal lad whos hometown gets raided and you are one of the survivers. Warhorse has delivered the story very well. It feels like that henry finds himself in the situations hes in because some pure accident or because he was "in the wrong place the wrong time". Not because Warhorse told you to go there. In KC:D, you are not been hold by hand. Quest markers still exist, and if you want to think about it that way then you may turn this into "running around" game. But then you will miss almoust everything this game has to offer. It's not about the destination, it's the journey. The World of KC:D is amazing. There are various kinds of terrain, but it's still all believeble. It's not like you're going to find snowy mountains in this kind of place. Some may say that itäs too boring, and i can understand that. The biggest downside of this game is it's combat. The swordplay is very complex if you want it to, but it's so easy to cheese you're way to victory in every encounter if you know what you are doing that it makes the combat pointless. This is something i wish Warhorse will fix in the sequel. I have played this game over 80 hours, and in that time i have encountered 2 bugs, but neither were game breaking. The game has been patched multiple times, and is now in very solid state. All and all, this is the game i had the most fun with in the last 5 years. I recommend to give it a try, and try going to it with no expectations. That way you will surely enjoy it.

What a unqiue gem!

Ive playing games since 1999 and I love old school games and lately some AA and AAA games lack the kind of deep gameplay I am missing so much since then but boy has KCD suprised me in so many positive ways... I cant remember when I had so much fun in a game. Everything (the save, the combat mechanism, etc.) is thought thru. I think the opposite of KCD is a game like the newer Assassins Creed titles (which are imo totally boring and meh). KCD is a totally different experience. I love it. If you like Witcher 3 and dont mind to go the extra mile in comfort for some things, you will be highly rewarded. I love it. I really hope Warhorse Studios will stick on this design of a game and go for KCD 2. And btw, dont get too frustrated at the beginning, the prolog of this game is one of the best Ive ever seen and after that it gets better and better. :D

Medieval simulator

Imagine Skyrim but medieval/realistic with a big twist: this game makes you work for everything. It's all ruthless: combat, surving, heck even learning how to read and talk to people. Food goes bad if you carry it for too long. Even fighting more than one enemy is tough. All that being said, I'm only 13 hours in and I'm loving it. The story is great, voice acting is top notch. It's probably not for everyone so watch a video on it before buying. If it's your thing, you'll spend countless hours playing it

High peaks, very low valleys

KCD does some stuff very well, and manages to make them fun, but then fails brutally in other fields. 1 vs 1 combat is really good, challenging and fair, but as soon as there's more than one opponent it becomes a mess and all the gameplay mechanics you've carefully learned are mostly useless. The abscence of any kind of crowd control move is just frustrating. Stealth takes in account the clothes you are wearing, and your body odour, but doesn't give you any tool to lure your enemies or distract them, and since the game is really buggy you'll end up facing NPCs stucked in a permanent walk over a campfire, or in a short animation loop that prevents them to reach a place where you can take them out silently. The game fancy itself to be an open world RPG, freedom of choices and approaches, but multiple times forces you into lenghty "on-rail" quests, that will keep you captive for hours into scenarios where you have little choices to make if any at all. Some gameplay mechanics, namely alchemy and weapon maintenance, should have been offered with an "auto-resolve" or "automated" options (not tied to perks), due to the fact that the related minigames are very time-consuming and very repetitive. The way the game handles your ability to save your progress also should have been a selectable option: unless you are nearby a bed, you can only save using a potion (of which you have a limited number of) that also makes you drunk. Being an adult with little time to spare for videogames, and real life responsibilities, I wanna be able to quit the game on a moment notice whenever I feel like, or I need to, without risking to wast hours of progress. Most of the problems can be solved installing mods, including the lack of crossair when you use a bow (wtf, who thought of this!?) or eliminating the silly, lenghty, animation when picking herbs and flowers, but nothing can solve the design problems that prevented me resolve some quests or boxed me out of some options without logic.

Beautiful medieval RPG

It's been a while since I have enjoyed a game as much as Kingdom Come Deliverance. I was a bit afraid at first, because I'm not that into simulation experiences, but wanted to try it out because they have this DRM free option. The most amazing parts of this game are the beautiful open world, great characters, immersive game-play and a good story. The world feels and looks almost real, the lighting (if it works correctly) makes everything look amazing. Big open fields with flowing grass and flowers and shadowy forests really set the mood. Most of the characters in the game are unique. The are all voiced and the ones you meet on different quests have personality so you remember them quite well. The quests they give you are different from most games in that they often change mid quest like most of us experience in our daily lives. The cutscenes and stories in these quests are some of the most memorable things I have experienced in games. The game-play is unique and might be hard to get into. Engaging in combat is very risky and saves are few which results in frustration, but also are rewarding when they do work out. In the beginning of the game you will struggle to fight even the plebbest of plebs, but during the game you will become stronger and better at the game itself. You will never easily defeat well armed groups of opponents which is nice and realistic. The game is absolutely beautiful, this will completely destroy your frame-rate however, but with some tweaks and mods I got it to run pretty well on medium.
