Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

Fantastic

To this day I can't think of another video game that has a more gripping intro than Kingdom Come. Some people complain about how this game is too difficult. It really isn't. The begging is supposed to feel challenging when your character is only level 1 and you're just a Black Smith apprentice with no combat experience and little training. This was my favorite part as I had to push to survive. This part was perfect. I wish it continued to be challenging in this way, it does become rediculously easy in not much time. I wish it had more difficulty options for this or level upscaling. The tournements are atleast challenging still, but the bandits and missions are just walk throughs. The combat system is pretty fun, and it is somewhat sophisticated. This is a postive for me because I don't like button masshing games. For tournements especially it benefits you quite a bit to learn all the elements of combat. Parry, combos etc... You can go from feeling hopeless to feeling unstoppable in tournements and against the bandits. I like the story for it doesn't feel like a bunch of cliches'. It's unpredictable in this way and creates a much richer story. Most of the bugs that people have complained about are gone, I played like 10 hours yesterday and only came across one bug. The music and graphics in this game are just about perfect. The voice acting is some of the best i've seen in a game. Hidden masterpieces are not for the ones that listen to the hype. I'm over 100 hours on this game and I put it up there with Mass Effect 2 and Witcher 3.

Highly Immersive, Historically Accurate

This game is a masterpiece. While some design choices, like equipment durability, I personally don't care for the overall experience is fantastic. This is the most immersive 1st person RPG I've ever played. The RPG story elements are great. While more restrictive than text heavy CRPG's of the 90's it offers considerably more freedom and choice than modern 'story driven' games. There is a fairly linear story that you have little agency over, but there's a lot of sidequests with multiple outcomes depending on your choices, the execution being my personal favorite. The game also does an excellent job of being true to the historical time period and setting, certainly better than any other historical game I've played. The combat is clunky, especially at first, but it is also incredibly deep and satisfying. As the character's skills increase the actions taken in game change in both animation and effectiveness. The multiple layers of armor is also a nice touch, both statistically, visually, and in immersion. Choosing between a helmet that is easier to see in and a helmet that offers better protection would normally annoy me but in a game this dedicated to immersion I can't help but respect and appreciate the dedication to detail. Also, the game does justice to polearms effectiveness, which most games understate to a criminal degree, but unfortunately balanced by not being able to keep them. Alchemy is the one part of the game that gives up a bit of realism with the creation of potions, the closest the game gets to magic. However, the act of creating potions is the most immersive crafting experience I've ever had, although translating recipes is frustrating without a guide. I could go on, but let me just say that if you enjoy the Elder Scrolls series, crafting survival games, or if you like immersion, this game is a must have at $60, at $30 it's a steal.

Not perfect, but amazing

So this is a really great project. The game can be regarded as a TV series, the plot and quests are all simply incredible. The gameplay itself is complex, quite complex, like life itself, yes, sometimes even boring, but quite interesting. The huge amount of historical records and facts is also impressive, you can learn the history of Bohemia without opening Wikipedia. In any case, this game may deserve a place in the pantheon of truly worthy games.

Great medieval life simulator

This is not just another RPG game, this is historically correct simulator of medieval life. Every piece of it is crafted with so much love, that you are completely into that old times in Bogemia. It is very enjoyable just to walk the streets of ancient villages and castles, through valleys and most beautiful forests. There is no game with such realistic environment, as in Kingdom Come. Nature looks as it is real! Music is another thing, it is very beautiful. I can listen it for hours, you do not get bored of it. Quests are very interesting, can be completed several ways. So you can play this game several times, and it will bring you more and more new features. Despite a lot of bugs in the first release of the game I think it is the best RPG game I ever played. Hopefully Warhorse will release other parts of the series later, and this game won't be the last.

Surprisengly awesome, I want a Sequel!

After I read about how bug ridden this game was, I was a little reluctent to buy this title. So I took a leap of faith and bought it on sale. On the PC the patches really fixed a lot of issues. I had like a couple of bugs, but nothing that I couldn't work around. The game-breaking bugs, seems to me were fixed. I have to say, that in my playthrough I had less bugs and glitches, than in my recent playthrough of the Witcher 3 GOTY. I have a fairly average gaming PC and could play it with stable 60 FPS on a High Resolution. The Quests are highly enjoyable, the world is very detailed and beautiful. The Story-line is a breath of fresh air, because you are not a powerful character. This is the Story of an ordinary man who got thrust into an adventure by no extraordinary circumstancers. So everything you do in this game, has to be earned. You are a peasant nothing more! Combat takes some time to get used to, until you figure out how to beat everyone, the whole thing becomes a bit redundant. I hope in the Sequel they are going to change the combat system a little bit. All in all, this game was surprisingly awesome.
