King of Seas

What a terrific little pirate game! The sea is in my blood..... because my uncle was a deck chair attendant. Perhaps that's why I periodically have a strong itch to play a seafaring game. Especially one with sailing ships. King of Seas scratched that itch really well. A fun tongue in cheek sailing adventure with pirates and loot and the odd bit of giant squid tentacles, man eating sharks and voodoo magic thrown in for good measure. The only niggle I have so far is the odd design choice of having to find Cartographers dotted around the ocean, in order to expand the map. This function would have been much better as something you buy in port. As it is, visiting a port is not enough to add it to your map, which is a little immersion breaking. Other than that it's anchors away and a strong recomendation from me. Badger

I'm not a fan of the cartoon art style. The AI is pretty dumb. Get in a fight with a ship, get some distance between them and they will completely forget about you so you can get up close for a heavy blow. Your inability to leave your ship to do things like dig up treasure is kinda sad. I think it's worth a purchase if you catch it on sale. + Music + Controls + Procedural Generation + Ship to ship combat is fun - Art style - Cannot leave your ship - AI has the memory of a goldfish

So the game can be really good, the graphics, the audio, the story and its dialogs make it for a great game but even for free I suggest friends not to play it. This is why: 1.] Repetitive. After like an hour you will start facing the exact same quests. 2.] Difficulty goes way up for normal and you need to grind heavily if you are to progress with the story. 3.] No save between the last mission's checkpoints? That alone turns the review into a negative! Its a shame. Developers, why no saves at the last mission? I will not spend half an hour again. What were you thinking? And how much time would it take to make a few more quests? Unacceptable guys...

Love pirate games and spent way too many hours in this game, I am a bit sad that you can not continue after the last mission, would have loved to get better items and skills!

I start with positives since it will be shorter.. + nice graphics + nice story introduction + ship type specific items + saves works just fine (but using GoG galaxy) It's a bit sad but after that the game just put me blind in the ocean.. and play. Negatives: - Key bindings - mostly work.. but some are hardcoded (numbers - 1,2 in quest board) - No item details.. You want to see what it does.. well buy it and you can find out. - Dialogs do not work with some screen resolutions and are shown.. well not sure where but not on my screen. - You are forced to see conversation for each quest at least the beginning until the skip button is shown (btw this is also hardcoded to "1" - so not working with my keyboard layout) - UI does not show sufficient information. (sometimes it's good to know how much gold you have or more importantly how much space you have in your ship) - Map is not revealing until you find a cartographer.. somewhere and buy a map. - Mouse works for selecting purposes only. Detailed item information on mouse hovering would be really welcomed. - Ships can drift in water as a car on the road.
