3D Realms and Voidpoint are proud to bring back the Build engine, which powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior, in all of its hand-crafted pixelated glory. They’ve spent a lot of time tinkering under the hood to take advantage of new technology and techniques. Bigger levels, hundreds of new colors, and morphing maps that transform mid-level are all just a few of the advancements made to the engine.

Welcome to ION FURY!

Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison earned her nickname as a bomb disposal expert for the Global Defense Force. When transhumanist cult mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes a cybernetic army on Neo DC, Shelly decides it’s time to start chucking bombs rather than diffusing them.

Her journey will leave trails of blood and gore in huge, multi-path levels filled with those famous colorful keycards and plenty of secrets and Easter Eggs to discover behind every corner. There’s also no regenerating health here, so stop taking cover and start running and gunning. Honestly, Ion Fury should probably come out on three hundred floppy disks.

Shelly’s quest to take down Dr. Heskel’s army will see her use an arsenal of weapons, all with alternate fire modes or different ammo types. Her signature revolver, Loverboy, brings enemies pain and players pleasure with single shots, or Shelly can fan the hammer Old West style. Shotguns are fun, but tossing grenades down their barrels and firing explosive rounds is even better. Bowling Bombs are just as violent and over-the-top as one would hope.

Ion Fury laughs at the idea of constant checkpoints and straight paths through shooting galleries. But just because this is a true old-school first-person shooter doesn’t mean there won’t be all the good new stuff the last two decades have brought. Headshots? Hell yeah. More physics and interactivity? You betcha. Widescreen, controller support, and Auto Saves? 3D Realms and Voidpoint took the best of both worlds and cooked it all into a bloody stew.
  • The true successor to classic shooters such as Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Blood.
  • Built using the original "Build" engine, with additional enhancements to further improve the technology.
  • Beautiful hand-crafted artwork, built using original old-school tools and methodologies.
  • 7 exciting Zones, each spanning multiple maps.
  • Tons of enemies, weapons and carnage!
  • Best of both worlds! ION FURY brings back the classic '90s FPS action you love, with modern additions such as physics and checkpoints.
  • Classic level design, no procedural generation! Expect multiple paths, cool effects, and complex set pieces!
  • True tracked module music!
  • Incredible weapons with alternate firemodes!
  • Easy access to development tools and modding on day one!

This game is fantastic... Screw drama.

I played through the entire campaign and loved it. You can tell that a ton of effort was done by the devs. The weapons are cool, not as outrageous as Duke 3D but still fun and each feels like a tool that's best used for specific enemies and situations. The enemies are pretty interesting too, not super smart but they still give you a challenge. Each level is large, well made, and filled with secrets that are fun to try and find. I say ignore all of the drama and enjoy an awesome game. As for the drama, I think it's dumb. A few of the devs (who are entitled to their opinion), expressed their opinion on a controversial topic on the Discord server they were using to promote the game. Not sure why they thought that was a good idea being as at that point, you are acting as a representative for your company and probably should have done that somewhere else. The internet did what the internet does and people complained. Then some guy used noclip and found some language that is offensive to a specific demographic. Voidpoint and 3D Realms did what businesses do and tried doing damage control by apologizing and said that they will take out the offensive language. Thing is, they've said that they are only taking out the thing that you need the noclip cheat to find and changing 1 joke around. Nothing else is changing. But people are now review bombing the game on Steam and GOG because they say the Devs and 3D Realms caved to ResetEra (the forum that complained) and are censoring the game. Trust me, the game is still loaded with politically incorrect jokes, if that's all that's changing, who cares? I think both sides of the argument are overblown. If you like old school shooters, give this one a try. Sounds like it's still going to be the same game even after they patch it.

Recent News

Apparently the developers have decided to stand up for themselves and not censor their work. It would be cool, if any of you posted a review based on the censorship news, would update your reviews so that the game can recover it's image. As for the game, I haven't played it much, but so far I'm loving the dirty looking tech dystopia atmosphere it has. I'm a sucker for tech dystopias.

Blood & Shadow Warrior VS 21st Century

Ion Fury tries to be like a Duke Nukem, but it's not. What I dislike the most: 1. Every time something shoots at me, I have to pixelhunt whatever maybe slightly different from environment is moving, and it's not fun. 2. Enemies appear from nowhere in the cleaned locations.

back to the 90s

This game is everything I've been wishing for, a NEW old school shooter, with old technology. They've added tons more interactivity and maxed out the map sizes compared to games such as Duke Nukem 3D. Cant wait for them to make more just like this.

Promising but needs a fix

I would like to recommend this to new comers if the game worked stable. The dev's put out a statment on how to fix the framrate drops, yet most of it downgrades it to a more ancient way possible. The Build engine still uses the Duke Nukem 3D look yet my GTX titan and quadcore cant handle over 30fps in wide areas. If you like your games looking like a CRT (old box tv) quality go for this game. but untill then, the game needs update that fixes those issues. Actual thoughts, the game is really good. price is right for the type of experience you would get from any Build FPS game. I really like that you jump straight into the game without taking the controller away. Combat is fast and impacting with a hint of daring enemies when raising the difficulty. I cant say I am favouring the Scenery Memes and goofs, maybe its the same universe as duke nukem and those damn aliens arent worth the time for our new protagonist.... girl. I like that there is a Silent Protagonist feature cause the devs know the audience would get annoyed by the cheese. that isnt to say the dialogue from the other characters are any better, oh boy clinch your pillows cause the memes are pouring like a cement truck. Level design goes from good to eh, again framrate takes a tool from looking around at it from the devs perspective. The distopian era scenery has much to desire in terms of depth of the world, but ultimately feels empty. Pedestrians are not really around for the time, its just you and your foes.
