3D Realms and Voidpoint are proud to bring back the Build engine, which powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior, in all of its hand-crafted pixelated glory. They’ve spent a lot of time tinkering under the hood to take advantage of new technology and techniques. Bigger levels, hundreds of new colors, and morphing maps that transform mid-level are all just a few of the advancements made to the engine.

Welcome to ION FURY!

Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison earned her nickname as a bomb disposal expert for the Global Defense Force. When transhumanist cult mastermind Dr. Jadus Heskel unleashes a cybernetic army on Neo DC, Shelly decides it’s time to start chucking bombs rather than diffusing them.

Her journey will leave trails of blood and gore in huge, multi-path levels filled with those famous colorful keycards and plenty of secrets and Easter Eggs to discover behind every corner. There’s also no regenerating health here, so stop taking cover and start running and gunning. Honestly, Ion Fury should probably come out on three hundred floppy disks.

Shelly’s quest to take down Dr. Heskel’s army will see her use an arsenal of weapons, all with alternate fire modes or different ammo types. Her signature revolver, Loverboy, brings enemies pain and players pleasure with single shots, or Shelly can fan the hammer Old West style. Shotguns are fun, but tossing grenades down their barrels and firing explosive rounds is even better. Bowling Bombs are just as violent and over-the-top as one would hope.

Ion Fury laughs at the idea of constant checkpoints and straight paths through shooting galleries. But just because this is a true old-school first-person shooter doesn’t mean there won’t be all the good new stuff the last two decades have brought. Headshots? Hell yeah. More physics and interactivity? You betcha. Widescreen, controller support, and Auto Saves? 3D Realms and Voidpoint took the best of both worlds and cooked it all into a bloody stew.
  • The true successor to classic shooters such as Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Blood.
  • Built using the original "Build" engine, with additional enhancements to further improve the technology.
  • Beautiful hand-crafted artwork, built using original old-school tools and methodologies.
  • 7 exciting Zones, each spanning multiple maps.
  • Tons of enemies, weapons and carnage!
  • Best of both worlds! ION FURY brings back the classic '90s FPS action you love, with modern additions such as physics and checkpoints.
  • Classic level design, no procedural generation! Expect multiple paths, cool effects, and complex set pieces!
  • True tracked module music!
  • Incredible weapons with alternate firemodes!
  • Easy access to development tools and modding on day one!

To people who want a better explaination

Let's get this out of the way. The game is good. I love it, but that's not what I'm gonna talk about, sadly. (Please keep reading. Also feel free to remove this review if you feel it isn't helpful, @whoever moderates these reviews.) I'm gay (Keep reading. Seriously.) and some of us DO in fact buy and play video games. (Keep reading.) A lot of us. Do I think "OGAY" being removed from a lotion bottle in the game is necessary? Lol, no. Do I think it's a homophobic slur? Nah, not really, lol. Do I think an out-of-bounds discovery needs to be removed? I mean, nothing should NEED to be removed. Do I think its maybe a good idea to remove that "f*gbag" out-of-bounds discovery? Maybe, but that shouldn't be my decision. Yeah, thats what all the negative reviews are over. Something that doesn't affect the gameplay at all, really. Two small things. So, I want you to ask yourself this: Is my fun going to be ruined by a small texture on a lotion bottle, or a out-of-bounds thing accidentally left in the game? If the answer is no, and it should be for everyone, then why review bomb? If it's political, or based on person views, it really doesnt belong in the review section on GOG. This game is awesome, guys. Please, be mature enogh to handle the very small changes. If you're on the fence about buying the game, don't be. It's great, and no matter which side you're on, there's little reason to hate it.

Blast from the Present

This game is a SOLID entry into the BUILD engine library. Ive only played the 1st episode it comes with, but I can say easily that this game stands alongside Duke, Shadow Warrior, Redneck Rampage, and even Blood (My favorite from that series...I noticed some of the gibbed heads can even be kicked around just like Blood!) The weapons are satisfying to use, especially the Bowling Bombs. The female protagonist spouts adequately cheesy one liners. The enemy sprites are fantastic. The level design and use of lighting is great. More than playing a BUILD engine game it feels like I'm playing a cartoon, and I mean that in the best possible way. Buy this!

They are NOT censoring!

Joint statement from Voidpoint and 3D Realms: "We’ve caused a recent controversy suggesting Ion Fury game content was to be censored. We will absolutely NOT be censoring Ion Fury or any of our other games, now or in the future, including but not limited to by removing gags such as gaming’s most controversial facial wash. We do not support censorship of creative works of any kind and regret our initial decision to alter a sprite in the game instead of trusting our instincts. 3D Realms and Voidpoint stand together on this matter. Last but not least, please respect our need to keep our community forums clean from hateful messages, spam, or off-topic threads. We recognize our mistake and have received your message loud and clear!" So stop whining and enough with the review bombing! The game is awesome, and deserves a place among the best old-school shooters. Rate the game for what it is, not for some bullshit politics surrounding it!

Beautiful 90's Violence

If you are a fan of Build Engine games; Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior. This game was made for you. It has bad-ass weapons and all the cheesy dialogue that anyone growing up or adulting in the 90's would appreciate. The level design is top-notch and has a crap-ton of secrets. The difficulty can be changed but it can still be pretty tough at timea - it doesn't feel cheap but it can get difficult. I look forward to more Bombshell FPS games in the future.

Fun, fast-paced and very authentic

I've got this game on Steam. The game currently ships with a preview campaign that gives you a good idea of what it's trying to achieve. It's really fun, feels really good and feels authentic without feeling antiquated. Whereas a lot of shooters that aim to replicate the feel of 90's shooters kind of miss the mark because they lack authenticity, Ion Storm feels like it *is* a 90's shooter that's just been modernized. "Modern" in this case mostly relates to the gameplay flow, which is fast-paced and well-structured. Also, prepare to spend a lot of time looking for secrets. They're optional, but the game does remind you of how many secrets you've missed before going to the next area of the map. All in all my first impressions are really positive. This feels like a modern 90's shooter done right. Note: Ion Storm initially had some framerate issues but after the first patch it immediately felt a lot smoother overal.
