infuriating glitches
The glitches make this otherwise great game impossible to enjoy. A shame.

The Golden Age of Activision
A friend told me that he was hooked up with a group of external testers for Activision called the Visioneers. And that they were testing this great game, and that I should apply. So I did, and the first game I was presented with was Interstate '76. I was quite impressed with the quality of the game, and how much they cared about making a great game! I'd played Autoduel for the Apple II, and the Car Wars board game, but I'd wanted a game that actually let me sit in the car and drive through the wastelands with a machine gun strapped to a muscle car- I76 was a dream come true! The system is deep- close to a sim. But not so much that you lose the thrill of driving a car armed to the teeth, and the atmosphere is basically indescribable. My friend is a muscle car and gun aficionado, and they actually listened to him with his tuning hints and spreadsheets of data he derived- I was very impressed! By the time I82 came around, Activision had lost the magic that I found here. But I76 was an almost perfect game! Recommended!

Mechwarrior V8
Loved this game when it came out, although the profusion of controls made it impossible to play until I started to think of it like a Mechwarrior game when it suddenly clicked. The huge driving arenas give it a great sense of freedom and a real chance to zip about in your funkmobile, it's great fun and the handling feels just heavy enough, like GTA IV. The music, dialogue and look of it all work brilliantly together to give real atmosphere. However; the upgrade/salvage screens were always thoroughly confusing, I was never completely sure if I was upgrading, replacing with like or downgrading. The intervening years of the original disk installer telling me "This game is not designed for Windows NT" have had me screaming at the machine so thanks GoG for the chance to play it again. Thankfully I have the soundtrack, the games shops had a small stock of CDs they were handing out at the time and I still listen to it quite often. Never get out of the car (cue slap bass).

Never get out of the car!
This game is just classic! Loved it back then and still love it. If you have issues on modern hardware - here's a patch that fixed it for me: https://www.replaying.de/files/interstate-76-d3d-patch-windows-7-8-1-10/
