Description
Ultherst was once a peaceful, God-fearing land until the Three Scourges of God came to pass as foretold by Saint Ezekiel, one of the twelve followers of the First Prophet. First came the famine that devasted the populace. Next came the plague that added more unfortunate souls on Death’s abacus. Finally came the great rain of fire, and death fell down on sinner and innocent alike, blood flooding the streets in place of water. The people, in their desperation, turned away from the Holy Mother Church and delved deep into pagan decadence or succumbed to the temptation of the Devil. You have been charged with the office of Inquisitor. It is up to you to investigate crimes against the one true faith and root out heresy--using any and all means necessary. As in all best computer RPGs--the most important choices are yours to make.

Inquisitor is a unique blend of action-oriented combat with a deep and involving tale of betrayal, torture, madness, and infernal damnation. Put your wits to the test as you collect evidence against possible heretics and put them to trial once they have been charged. Use the might of the Inquisition to extract a confession from your subjects, but be warned, use your power wisely or you will face the consequences. If a gritty old-school open-ended isometric RPG is what you looking for, look no further. Inquisitor will provide you with hours of gameplay and a dark, involving story.
  • Three character classes--Paladin, Priest, and Thief--each with his own unique and independent story.
  • Wield the power of the Inquisition as you arrest heretics; use a variety of tools-such as the iron maiden, suspension, and the rack-to extract confessions and burn the heretics!
  • A wide, open-ended world for you to explore and exploit as you see fit.
  • More than 200 weapons, 80 spells, and 7 schools of forbidden and allowed magic!

Not good, I'm afraid.

The graphics are good, although the relatively high resolution and gridless feel of the world remind me too much of Arcanum and not enough of Planescape. The bad parts are the combat and the writing, which two parts pretty much make up all of the game except for slowly walking around. The combat is dull and drawn out and is basically trading hp,mana and stamina potions for xp. The non-regenerating nature of hp,mana and stamina and the way your equipment breaks over time is extremely tedious. The writing. I actually gave the 2nd star for the fact there is a lot of text in the game. There's a lot of dialogue options and lots of lore and story, which is good. Unfortunately it's all written seemingly by some European person for whom English was a second language: "I'll say you goodbye in that case", "we have hope till we breathe!", "Is there any problem in it?!".

Really good underdog

This is an underdog. Too many people are superficial and materialistic to see this one as a good game. They prefer superficial games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and other games with great graphics but poor game design and very linear. This one is different and is more fun to play than any of these big budget games that focus on eyecandy rather than the game itself. Unlike crap like Diablo, this game is tough. You should use your range weapons and magic first until you run out before going hand to hand (unless you fight a spell caster or deadly range attacker) because hand-to-hand is deadly. I recommend this game ten times before any big budget games like Mass Effects, Diablos, Elder Scrolls 4 or more recent, Dragon Age, etc.

Stay clear

Stay well clear of this game. The plus-got it for $3.00 as a part of mystery game deal and there is some kind of old school feel. Now the bad-The old "school feel" is created by graphic from last decade. Really looks like they couldn't be bothered to make the game look better. There is no XP bar, i know you can check progress on status page but you won't do it all the time. There is no life indicator of the monsters you are fighting. Really annoying as you don't know, is it one hit from going down or is it barely scratched. There is no information about monsters resistance etc. Yes, you can check it but i want something easily accessible and in front of your eyes. There is no mini map either. The dialogs are long winded and boring. After a while, with most will in the world you'll just click until all conversation options are exhausted. The story is not interesting at all. That might change further along the game but i struggle to bring myself to play it. Last but no least game freezes every so often after starting a conversation with NPC. No other way that shut the game and restart. Really annoying. All in all-stay well clear and look for something better.

Sadly the cons outweight the pros

At the beginning I would like to state that I can't rate positively a game which I don't bother to finish despite I like the genre of the game. If I enjoy it I finish it, if not I don't finish it, simply as that. I needed to tell this because I'm sure as hell most of the ppl who gave 5 or 4 stars to Inquisitor they didn't finish it either, yet they rate this game high. The sad thing that the game does a lot of things right. The world, the lore, the writing and the story are all interesting and engaging. The world is an alternative medieval Europe with magic and monsters. The lore is well detailed and clearly has a deep historycal inspiration. The story itself wouldn't be interesting nor innovative, but set in this dark and realistic world with some well made twists, and with a unique religious approach it really manages to be something which makes you invest in this game. You are an inquisitor in the game who investigate after heretics and conspiracy and this part of the game resembles very much to Planescape Torment. The problem is though that this game is essentially a dungeon crawler first and foremost, the story driven part is secondary. There are huge obligatory dungeons in this game and you will spend a lot more time in dungeons than with side questing or investigating. For me it's a fatal flaw because I play rpgs for role-playing (npc interaction, choices, exploration etc) not for dungeon crawling. The combat is slow and tedious and despite the character development and combat has some depth combat remains a boring yet significant part of the game. If the game has turn based or real time with pause combat system with less combat and dungeons and more investigating and side questing I would truly enjoy this game and would recommend it to people who enjoyed the original Fallouts, Arcanum and Torment but as it is I can't recommend it to anyone.

Wasted Potential

A game with many great ideas but a poor execution. The atmesphere, the setting und and the characters are well done but the gameplay suffers a lot from lack of polishing. The Diablo like combat is anoying and comes down to drink hundreds of potions during every fight. The dialogues are often just long without any real content. I don't have anything against reading much(like in Planescape Torment) but here you are forced to read through many not so well balanced dialogues. Also choices an consequences are only an illusion. At first you think you can decide the course of actions, but soon you realise that your choices doesn't really matter. Overall this could be a good game, but the combat breaks it for me completly.
