Crashes every half hour or so, even in updated version, meaning that after a certain point, levels are pretty much impossible without tinkering with the game or speedrunning. I haven't managed to fix it yet. Otherwise fantastic.
This game has terrible controls, but if you manage to get used to it (which takes a bit of time, and also you have to be forgiving), there is an interesting game underneath it all.
I completed it and I still don't know what the story is, nor do I care enough to go and search for it. Meaning it has non-sensical story at face value at the least.
I got used to the controls somewhere around 50% of the game and after repeated attempts at re-playing the game after giving up on it a few times. So it is not easy, but there is indeed a fun experience beneath the surface.
Hotline Miami is a great game, i love the top down type shooter idea, kinda like was Smash.T.V back in the day, without a fixed camera. It gives you the advantages over the enemies and know were they are and have to be strategic all the time, quick reaction is rewarded in this game.
The story is cool too, you are this psychotic maniac that kills people, but why? Is because is fun? even if you know is bad, or is it because something else? That is mostly the premise.
The gameplay is fast paced and very fun, you will die a lot first time, so don't get frustated by it.
Lots of different weapons to choose. Mask that are essencialy power ups, some make you faster, some make you see further, some makes you survive bullets and lots more.
The only thing that drag the game down is the collision detection, it's pretty bad and you will notice immediataly and it gets worse on last levels. It's not broken or anything, is just works time to time, also add that the enemies can survive some bullets like 2 or even 3 before they die and i'm talking about the regular ones, sometimes bullets won't even hurt the enemies, sometimes not. Dogs are also an issue here, they can essencialy drift up to 90 degrees before catch you. Mostly of this problem were fixed in Hotline Miami 2.
In conclusion Great game, bad collision that makes the game somewhat more hard.
